USDA Davis cuttings order

Has anyone received a conformation number this year indicating we might still receive cuttings from them? I am not talking about the automated replie you receive when you place the order but an actual conformation with an order number. The conformation usually comes a few days later. I have not received one this year but did last year.

Jake

I have not received any confirmation either. I did get the automated response. I sent in my request a few weeks ago
Coop

All I got was confirmation but they do have a number on them.

I had ordered my cuttings last spring, where the season had ended for shipping. they said my name will remain in waiting list and they will send me the cuttings when the new season opens up.
Does any one know when the new shipping season starts?
thanks

February - April

I think they take orders until end of October for spring delivery the next year.

Automated response? I didn't get anything. Now I'm worried.

I also had an order number in my automated response

i'm hearing lot of rumors that USDA/UCD will not be sending to individuals any longer. we'll have to wait and see..

I am posting the text of a message I received on 11/5 of this year, maybe this will address the rumors appearing in this thread.

Thank you for your interest in the National Clonal Germplasm Repository. Our website address is:
http://www.ars-grin.gov/dav and we only accept orders placed online via the online order form. It is located under products and services near the bottom of the page. Our deadline for dormant orders was November 1st, which will ship sometime in the spring of 2014. You can still place an order but it will probably not ship until spring of 2015. We have had an enormous response this year.

Sincerely,
Mary

Yes, I sent in my order in June and received a confirmation reply with an order number...in previous years the cuttings were shipped in Feb. & March.

I received an automated documentation via email of my order entitled "Public Order from WWW". It was generated as soon as I submitted my order. If you did not find one, check the ol' spam folder.

I think I must have been smoking crack (medicinal crack,of course) when I placed my fig cutting order. What was I thinking?

Thanks for posting some of the text from your email. That gave me what I needed in order to correctly search my inbox. I DID receive a confirmation email and it has a 5 digit number that I presume is my order number.

I communicated with someone there recent as I received the automated with submitted order, but not the later confirmation with a order number I did in prior years.    Quote "Yes I see you have an order in the files, but there has not been an order number assigned to it yet.  We have had a huge turn out this year so a little slow in this area. "  There was no indication they were not going to fill orders, and I am sure they are doing their best, so we all should probably be patient myself included. Just looking at the explosion of this forum I am sure the number of requests have grown exponentially the last few years.

Here's a phone number to call to receive your confirmation numbers guys... Mari is an awesome lady that will verify your placed order and give you your confirmation number.

mary has been most helpful last two yrs.

There is a box to check on the order form if you wish to recieve an order confirmation email or not. I'm not sure why another contact would be expected.

I placed a very late request days ago when the "deadline" is November 1st of 2013. I hope to receive my request by March 2015.

I expect my order number has an extra digit or two compared to those ordered on time.

My request:
143-36
291-4
187-25
Black Madiera
Negronne
Flanders
Osborne

I was looking for A10-8 based on a video of what they have to offer but couldn't find it on the list.

The box you checked is not an order confirmation. It is what it says it is, a carbon copy of your order. Like sending yourself an email. A conformation is when they send you an email somewhat later which includes an order number. Don't hold your breath while waiting on this conformation. Sometimes it never comes.

When you submit the order, an order number is assigned.

The emailed document has the order number both in the title and on the upper right hand side of the document in brackets. This confirms you placed the order because a number would not be assigned or emailed to you otherwise.

I placed several separate orders in a weeks span rather than one order. All the order numbers I received are 5 digit and randomly selected when the order is submitted.

Setup email event notification for "pick up" events from either Fed Ex or UPS. That way you will know when it is on its way.

Does USDA DAVIS sell these cutting or give them out?

Free plus shipping. Must have a Fed Ex or UPS account:

http://www.ars.usda.gov/Main/docs.htm?docid=12146

I read this on the order form and this is why I was asking

"The accessions within the NPGS are available in small quantities for research and education purposes only. :

I can't speak for you, but for me, working with these accessions in trying different methods of propagation in a different zone and climate is an educational experience. I have no experience with them.

I assume the repository is there to preserve these varietys. My yard is my repository. No reason to assume other education purposes will also include growing trees to maturity.

Any cuttings in excess of what is requested will likely end up in the compost heap.

If it is a common variety, try Home Depot. A large tree won't cost any more than the cost of shipping and growing these cuttings to the same size.

Although you seem to be convinced you have received a conformation number, my experience is somewhat different.

On 8/28/2012 I placed an order, the email I received right away did have a number (22485). What that number is ??????.

Almost a month later on 9/24/2013 I received another email out of the blue. It is below:

Thank you for your order and providing us with your FedEx account number to help with our costs. Your order number is 236986 and is now part of our winter dormant cuttings that will ship sometime in February/March of 2013. Please make sure that the account is active around the time we will be shipping.

Sincerely,
Order desk at NCGR

Seems there may be some differences in the two numbers.

Jake
