Valle Negra superior to Violette de Bordeaux

Ciao friends,,, I must say, in my opinion, many have thought of Valle Negra and Violette de Bordeaux as being same figs, after a training in the eye you will easily notice the differences in leaves, fruits ect. But you will be absolutely surprised how wonderful Valle Negra taste to Violette. Violette de Bordeaux was always a favorite, still is, But Valle Negra takes over Violette de Bordeaux for me. It was soooo delicious compared to VdB in my taste. I recommend everyone to try this fig! I cannot supply any more cuttings from my Valle Negra this year, sorry sold out of cuttings and don't want to over butcher mother tree. Ciao

Ciao Maggie,
i hear very good things about Valle Negra taste also.
Now you also confirm it.
Thanks .

Meggie,
this forum is great for info, but the constant growth of my WANT list is killing me. I have limited space.
So, you say Valle Negra is superior to Violette de Bordeaux? Do you know where is this fig originally from? Maybe you mention it somewhere earlier, but I missed it.

Thank you
Karla

Thank you Alan. I should have guessed that Italian girl would have fig from Italy.

Karla

Ciao, yes it is delicious!! Martin a must have in my opinion. Carla, yes, this Valle Negra is an introduced variety from Italian Fig professor in my opinion he is, from Liguria which he found on his many travels searching different figs throughout Italy. He is not in America he lives in City of Genova, so most of his figs are relatively few and far between here in U.S., unless you can get cuttings or living plants from him or people he has sent to previously here in North American continent. I was truly amazed at this fig. He also introduced others one namely which is an excellent fig, Negretta, amongst others. Ciao

Yes Maggie i show it in that posting called "my video " .
The Negretta yes this season for me was good to eat , have to say i like violet bordeaux better but i look forward to the Valle Negra if mine survives.

Hey, that's good to know because I took a cutting on our visit to the Liguria region last March (Cinque Terre, actually...what a fabulous place! Portofino also...anyway, I digress). I just planted it inground and it looks healthy

Would be great if the cutting turns out to be a Valle Negra.

Maggie, I have read the info on your web site and have been interested in several of your figs but have wondered if they would ripen in time for my zone 6 climate. Maybe next year you will have cuttings available - when is the best time to inquire?
Thanks.

Anyone have updated 2012 experience with Valle Negra?

If I remember correctly someone posted on here or the garden web about Valle Negra being very cold hardy. I had it on my wish list but never found it.
Now that Maggie brought it up I'd like to continue the search for it. Anyone have cuttings or a rooted tree? PM me if you do with the details.

I am quite sure that this is the same as Nero600 that Herman has .

John

there is a long thread in the other forum about Nero 600M/ValleCalda(?) and Valle Negra. it seems they are very similar but different.

I,
Believe that  Negronne and Valle Negra are also very similar.Ciao,
Giuseppe

Giuseppe,
Would you say Valle Negra is more cold hardy than Negronne?

Art

I bought some Valle Negra cuttings from Gorgi on eBay (and happy to have paid for them!) and they have done very well for me.  I stuck the three cuttings on 1/13 and they were transplanted into gallon pots about three weeks later and moved into my greenhouse.  Today I moved them into 5 gallon pots, but only filling them about 2/3 full.  Strong vigorous grower!

harvey, that looks great. i heard they are very tasty.

Good sign if you can't fit the entire plant in the picture, very vigorous variety!

My arm wasn't long enough! :)  This seems be be one of the most vigorous varieties along with Ronde de Bordeaux.

Thanks for the tip ,I guess I have to add this on my wish list as well lol

nice looking tree, I have to add it to my wish list
Mark
