To day I went around of about 15 different leafy cuttings and noticed an interesting thing. While they all look "cute" (never wanted to use this word with figs..) having 2-4 young leaves, one smelled quite strongly. It was a very vanilla fragrance. I could smell it 1 ft away, from a silver dollar size leaf! I tried other cuttings and none smelled at all.
This fragrant one is an Adriatic I got from Grasa a while back, she was distributing them for some time.
Intrigued, I googled for the "fragrant fig leaves" and got some interesting entries. What curious is it seems quite a few fig varieties have a particular smell. I have about 25 different rooted cutting in 1 gal pots with many leaves and only 1 (Adriatic) is fragrant.
I can't imagine standing next to a large tree of this, it might be a heavenly feeling!
So, my question is, what other varieties are noticeably fragrant?
Here are the links I found:

From a user comment (copy paste from the link above):
"It opens with a bright green, leafy smell that reminds of geranium leaves more than anything. I've never smelled a real fig leaf, so I couldn't tell you how authentic it is, but it is a convincing leafy note that smells natural.
Over the course of about an hour, the green fades and the sweet figgy scent emerges, then comes to the forefront. For the next hour or so, the fig stays, while a coconut note slowly starts to appear. The fig + coconut lasts about another hour, for a total of about three hours. (As with most fragrances, it lasts longer on clothers than on skin.)
All in all, it's very good for a Demeter pick-me-up cologne. I wear it often on the weekends to run errands or to visit family members. It's an office-appropriate scent to my nose, too."

Anyway, have you noticed this with any of yours? What varieties?
Have a great Memorial day weekend!
