Varieties with Brebas worth Keeping

I have lots of brebas forming on many varieties for the first time.Even my Celeste has brebas this year. I read through Breba New World and didn't get a clear picture of which are worth leaving on. I may not have the particular variety you may mention, but it may be a great resource for others here as well. Thanks in advance.

This is a great thread, Tim, thanks for starting it.

It looks like the only brebas I have are on the LSU P.  The others that I thought were brebas, had leaves coming out right after the figs.

Right now I see Brebas forming on quite a few figs as well the leader at this point is Deleon. Also see brebas on Dalmatie, Enrico, Unk. Portuguese White, Sal's Corleone, Unk. Black Portuguese.

Thanks Guys, but the point of this thread is to find out which brebas are worth leaving on the tree and which should be knocked off early. Just looking for varieties that in your experience have brebas worth eating. Types that are breba only are a given such as Desert King, Norman's Yellow, etc. I have found these referenced so far.

Atreano

Hardy Chicago

Sal's (EL, Gene's)

Sal's Corleone

St. Jerome(Black Triana?)

Please add to the list and/or feel free to dispute any listed. Thanks!

Only referring to outdoor and in-ground trees:

Desert King
Latarrula
Granthams Royal
Dauphine - New tree from friend to be planted outdoor.

Thanks guys for you help, that's a pretty good list, so far! Anyone else?

Ironic that Grantham's Royal came up.  I rec'd a couple cuttings of it this year and looked it up last night.  It specifically mentioned huge brebas, so I was going to post it in the thread.

Since Paully beat me to it ;) I'll share this tidbit:

Grantham's Royal is supposedly a clone of Royal Vineyard at the Grantham family's home.  To boot, Royal Vineyard is also aka Drap D'Or.

Drap d'Or ("drip of gold") seems to be a common term used for several figs, translated various ways in central European languages including Drop of Gold, Drip of Gold, Drop of Honey, etc.

So, I guess at minimum you could add Royal Vineyard and Drap D'or to your list.

You may add the variations of Drap D'Or to your list as "possibles" as well.

I haven't checked what brebas are forming now, but the brebas that have tasted really good for me are:

Vista
Brooklyn White
Lebanese Red
Calabrese Long (long breba)
Dark Portuguese
Naples White
Negretta (main crop is much sweeter)
Negronne
Black Weeping
Desert King (you will only get brebas so don't remove those)

I'll keep you updated once I get brebas this year of other varieties.

Wow, this is great! Thanks everyone.

Jason, the brebas on Granthams R. are huge. I have no idea whether the variant is Drap D'Or as I had no chance to sample it. Unfortunately my son did not take any pictures. I was away. But before I went on holidays, I had a peeked at its size and colour. It was likely to be deliciously ripen in 2 or 3 days. The colour was different from what was described for Drap D'Or -- it was purplish with some dark green, more like Dauphine colour. Hopefully when it ripens this season, I am around to enjoy it & take some pic's. My GR came from Encanto.

I don't have enough experience to comment on good brebas. But I do hope to learn much more about them in the very near future.

I rec'd a cutting or two of Grantham's Roayal as well this season. Hopefully I'll get one grown out to maturity. Will be nice to see what the brebas are like.

The majority of my plants have not produced breba's yet that is why I will be leaving some on the plants this season to see for my self.

De Leon Breba pics Taken this Morning

Cool, I have a Deleon going into its 2nd year this year.  I couldn't find any pictures of the outside or inside online.

Nelson, that is exactly what I am doing---leaving them on, if they will stay on---to see for myself(since my climate is so much different than most here). Some varieties are already dropping them. The Yellow Marseilles from JR is loaded with them along with Atreano  Marseilles VS, Marlow and Norman's Yellow, of course, and a few others. I have a couple on lots of second season trees----it'll be interesting to see what they do. ice Pic. by the way.

Dauphine

Grise de Saint-Jean
Dalmatie

Yes Tim most of my plants are going into their 2nd & 3rd season so hopefully I will get to see wich Produce breba's Worth keeping as you mentioned.

Jason that Deleon plant I post was rooted in March 2010 going into its 2nd season now grew quite well and a few branches in its 1st season and now showing that it produces a decent breba considering how young it is hopefully they taste good.

Nice pic's Nelson. I see empty pots to the side. Looks like more additions coming. To date, I am surprise at the results from my warm up exercise in rooting --- I think I got about 7 or 8 varieties rooted & potted to 24 & 32 oz cups. Due credit to fig friends who send quality cuttings.

Thanks Paul, Pots in the back are my semi dormant plants rooted last season. Have about 30 pots there and about 30 inside the office. Its a jungle in here cant wait for the weather to warm up to take these babies out.
