VDB?

Here's my VDB that I received a couple years ago.   It came out with greenish figs with amber center in the beginning of the year.   Towards the end of summer, it started getting darker.   Now, the pulp is strawberry red and the skin is darker and somewhat striped.

not sure what that is.. but doesn't really look like VdB at that stage.

Cool! I wonder if it is a bud sport of VdB or just a mixup. If you want to compare it to another VdB I can send you some cuttings from mine.

I think it's a neat looking fig! Never seen one with a stripe like that? :)

Very Cool!  Where did you receive the original plant/cuttings from?

I think I have the info somewhere who I got this from. I'll have to look it up. I think it was someone in Washington. It was one of the first I ever traded via mail. I stopped keeping track after the first 100 figs so good time to update.

Nice fruit stripe(s).

VdB leaves tend to be finger-like.

IMO, this is not a VdB...

Here for you to compare .
Mature VdB and a baby VdB along with exterior and interior in a somewhat cold 2013 season for figs.

As a note yes VdB figs do show bronze color when very small then revert to more green shade then turn
dark as they go thru ripening period.
Those early displaying colors i have on another disk and not shown.

On personal palate here in our climate an excellent fig.

Mine definitely don't look like that. All the figs were green outside amber inside when ripe earlier in year. Must have had at least 60 figs like that. Just now getting pink/red inside darker outside. Taste was sweet and good texture. Recent figs even better with cool temps, but still not mind blowing good.

VdB has to have right weather down here to get it "right". it's still ok fig, but needs lot of sun and dry weather to get it to look like martin's figs.. or you have to find out what martin does to his figs. i tried playing music for them.. but didn't work.

Fignatic sometimes things are not what they are as advertised be careful where you obtain them
if you want them true to name.

Hi Pete ,
i do nothing special for the figs here in yard really i keep it as simple as possible they do the rest.

Perhaps there are NO light types in yard None what so ever to spoil the barrel is 1 reason.
I just could not help adding that. ; )

Bullet: There is so much sun here in the Valley of the Sun, it is almost uninhabitable by humans.  I don't love it, but my figs do.  Figs are what makes it almost worth living here.  The tree just ain't VDB.  Oh well.

Figinatic, is it its firsts figs ?
Are those breba or main  crop ?
In some conditions, VDB could have some brebas  - From what I read, they call it "ronde de bordeaux" over here - tree mainly unifer and a big grower.
As they say, time will tell - if it is its firsts .
This year, with the strange weather conditions, my "from the italian black" had a yellow skinned fig ... But,It is a true dark type !
That particular fig was in leaf shaded position and with the lack of heat this year... That could explain such lack of colors .
Where is your tree ? Full sun ?

Dieseler: your's are true VdB, looks awesome.
