VdB or Havasu 10-21-13

What ever this turns out to be, either VdB or Havasu this one fig was the best tasting fig
of the 2013 season. Very sweet, jammy, a little seed crunch and just off the wall flavor. Not
saying it was the best and most productive, just this one fig was the best tasting. My wife and I
both gave it a big 10.

Still have Col de Dame Noir, Kathleens Black, and two more Black Madeira's that
are ripening but don't know if they will make it before the predicted frost this Wed/Thur/Fri

Great pictures !

agree with Martin.
great pics

THAT is a delicious looking fig!   I'm glad i read what you said about the weather. I'd better get my fig act together.  VdB form you is growing robustly and keeps putting out little figs hopeless figs.  This little tree doesnt know it's supposed to be going night-night, It wants to grow!   I'm considering keeping it inside for winter.  What do you think about that?

Thanks for the pics. Soni

Soni, how tall is it now? I would say if it is two plus feet tall and has harden off let it go dormant.

Mike  It's 18" of trunk but with leaves it's 23".. brown wood and 4 rock hard figs
CdD is 15"  and a geenish brown trunk

Can you post a photo of the leaves?

Here ya go Joe.

Very nice and tasty figs, thanks for sharing.

Best,

Looks like VdB. My Havasu is still young, but the leaves look very different. Those leaves look just like VdB, and so does the fruit. I haven't gotten any Havasu fruit yet to compare. But I'm pretty sure it is VdB. Maybe others can comment.

Good looking fig, thanks for sharing.

Mike, That is one heck of a good looking fig.

I think this is Negronne (Violette de Bordeaux).  The leaves of Havasu Purple resemble Hardy Chicago leaves.  The fruit resembles VDB / Negronne also.

Mike   central NY state, zone 5a

p.s.  very nice looking fig, great pictures too.  Can almost taste it by looking at those pictures... looks delicious!

<<edit:  clarification -- I mean that The fruit in your photos resembles VDB / Negronne also.  I think the variety you've pictured here is Negronne / VDB, not Havasu Purple Unk >>

That looks delicious Mike. The leaves look exactly like my VdB. I started with one this spring and am up to 6 trees. I had to air layer the one I bought because it was a 4 foot tall spindly pencil. The air layer took and now both plants are trying to branch out. The log I got from Kerry is a nice 4x4 bush.
