Just wanted to share, this is my first fig from one year old cutting I received from Encanto Farms in Feb 2010(Thanks Jon). The tree was a little slow going but once it took off it did not stop as with most from what I've experienced. All I can say is WOW for taste. I wish I would have left one or two more days to ripen more as it was soft but firmly attached to tree. The flavor hit me right off but it is hard for me to describe or compare. It was sweet but not overbearing the flavor. I'm sure this will do well in years to come. Also picked some Improved Celeste and Conadria The I/C have improved and been holding as season progressed. The Conadria as always was good.I hope some others will report their findings on the Verdal LongueWeight 29 grams
Lovely looking fig Sal, wow is right that looks delicious they all do.
I got figs from mine last year and they were very tasty. It does seem to be a late variety, the figs on my tree still not ripe now.
Way to go Sal! How bout those figs!!! Well I got a small one. Maybe next year I will get the opportunity to taste one. Say Bass is your tree growing in your greenhouse? Or out in a containter? cheers.
Thanks to Bass and his post last season that I was led to this variety. Dennis I hope you get to taste next season. Bass did this give you breba fig?
I have outside, it's not in a full sun so that's probably why it didn't bear. I didn't get breba either.
That's one good looking plate of figs Sal. Those Conadria look just like mine. I think I may get a couple more of them if this weather holds. My flanders and LSU Gold will give me a taste also. "gene"
Picked my 2nd fig which I let ripen longer. Skin a little darker and fig smaller than 1st. The eye is closed or very tight, I'm very impressed with the taste of this fig, it was juicy but not watery and packed with a nice lingering flavor. Not sure if this is a late season fig as Bass mentioned but it is worth a trial in a warm longer season climate IMHO. A green house or sun room might be an alternative for colder climatesWeight 22 grams
