Verde Passo

I do not know if anyone is growing or has posted about this fig. Enjoy the pictures of Verde Passo.

Nice Looking Fig, Thanks for sharing. I haven't heard anything about this fig. Its great that you are still eating figs.

How does this one taste Philip? Is it a cold hardy variety?

Mike in Hanover, VA

@armado it was an early September fig, just a little late in posting picture.

Mike, fig was from Gene H.  (east coast figs) If remember correctly it comes from northern Italy. First time fruiting for me, and it’s a keeper.

My Verde Passo (SC) (I was told it is also called Fico Rubado). Excellent tasting fig but it needs to be very ripe. Photos taken August 19th, 2014
Seems to be a late fig as there are many on my tree that have not ripened yet.

very nice fig. thank you

Interesting info Leon, Im expecting some Rubado cuttings, glad to hear yours and Philip's good report. I understand it is astringent until very ripe, but then is delicious. It's too bad it is a late fig, it's always sad to see green figs on a plant that will never ripen in time.

Hi Mike,
I'm afraid this fig may be too late for my area. I'll give it one more year since this is the first year that it produced figs. I'm not certain that this is the true Fico Rubado or Fico Cuore. Only time will tell. The donor was quite passionate about this fig and I am very grateful to him for sharing his family heirloom. Albuquerque is in Zone 7, and 5000 feet ASL. There are a number of fig varieties that don't do well here. I'm having a tuff time accepting that.

Just added two more pictures of same fig.

Dr. Lean I do have a small plant of Fico Rubato cuttings from (Maggie)  the leaves are identical your photo. Also I did check the leaves my other plant, but they are too deteriorated to make a comparison.  I will change name tags to one. Thank you for your information.

Philip

Thank you Philip. I believe Maggie received her Fico Rubado (Verde Passo)from the same source as my tree.

This is one of the many best tasting figs but it is also one of the rarest. My tree is huge and the figs are out of this world good. My figs look like Dr Leon's.
