Verte same as green ishcia?

Hi guys and girls, this is my first time posting here and was wondering if anyone could answer this for me. It seems if their not the same cultivar then very similar, anyway if anyone could answer my question I'd much appreciate it. Thanks.

Paradiso...on the Figs4Fun.com website the Verte and Ischia Green are listed as the same fig called by two different names(actually several different names)...check out http://www.figs4fun.com and click on 'varieties' and under the letter "V", scroll down to Verte...hope this helps.

Thanks Forever figs I had feeling they were the same.... I got a couple fig trees this past Christmas from Joe morle and thought the verte would probably be another good fig for my area, I'm in new jersey. Thanks for responding.

The Verte and Green Ischia in the USDA collection are not the same.

Jon...wasn't aware of that...I was going by the info in the Figs4Fun variety listings, and it said that the Verte was synonymous with Ischia Green...could you please clarify...Thanks.

i have Green Ischia, Verte, and Strawberry.....and they are not the same.

I am curious, among all variety, which one is the best for Pacific Northwest coastal weather? I was thinking all of them are the same but now I am wondering if there's one that is better suit for cooler weather.

Thanks!

Vince, Info at F4F comes from many sources. That information may or may not be accurate. It is left to the reader to evaluate the information. In the case of Green ischia, some source(s) believed them to be the same.

When you combine this with the number of times plants are mis-labeled when sold, even if innocently, that leads to some plants having more than one name, and some names having more than one plant. I have more than one Violette de Bordeaux that was labeled as "Black", "Black Mission", and more...

Apart from DNA testing, you can't really determine is two plants are the same, and that still does not guarantee that all plants with that name are the same.

Jon...thank you for the clarification on the Verte / Ischia Green question...I was just 'assuming' that what was on the F4F website was the final word on these matters...you know what they say about "assuming"......   :)  :)    I appreciate your input...thanks again.

Thanks everyone for the feedback..... Snaglpus would you mind explaining the differences between the green ischia and verte or maybe were you got them. Thanks again.

I have multiple of the so called same variety.  Why?  Because years ago I emailed a friend and I asked them the exact type of question you asked about figs.  And guess what I was told?  THis person said, they did not know but they recommend I buy the figs I'm interested in and do the comparsion for myself.  So, I did!  I am glad I took his advice.  So, this information aka my commments are from what I've learned growing figs in NC.  I've tasted Verte, Green Ischia, Adriatic, JH Adriatic, and Strawberry.  All were great except Green Ischia.  GI is good but no where close in taste to the others.  My GI came from Petels from the Past.  Please note that my trees are small.  In due time the flavor and taste will improve but I don't know how much.  I got a couple of Verte from Jon and RR.  This summer I will start a thread with these figs side by side and their leaf pattern.  I do know that my Strawberry came from Tim in Texas.  He also grows JH Adriatic---- he sent me one years ago and I have it growing in my orchard. The taste and flavor of this fig is freaking amazing!  I got another Strawberry from Bass a few years ago too.  Strawberry and Verte are not that hardy for my climate depending on the age of the tree.  Mine die to the ground but comes back in full force the next year.  My Adriatics ( i have 4 of them) came from Burnt Ridge.  They have not fruited yet but will this summer.  Here are some pictures. Pictures 315-319 are of Paradiso and Strawberry side by side.  Strawberry figs are large and seals the eye with honey.  Paradiso does not.  The other pictures shows green and yellow figs ripening.  The one listed as "HOK" is the JH Adriatic.  JH Adriatic figs are medium size and oozes honey also.  The texture and taste of Strawberry is so good that it can make you pass out.  Make sure you're holding on to something when you bite into one of these bad boys!  Adriatic at UCD is extremely sweet!  Howard Garrison of UCD thinks they taste like coconut.  I just laugh.  I also posted a few pics of Adriatic at UCD.They do not taste like coconut but are excellent tasting.

Dennis,
Do you know how different are the Strawberry  and Strawberry Verte?

Nope. I'm waiting for the Strawberry Verte I got from Jon to ripen. I'll add it to the list of others this summer.

Mine is from Jon too, a few months old, growing nicely. If I am lucky, maybe I will see some fruit next year.

"The taste and flavor of this fig is freaking amazing!" (by Dennis)
I totally agree!.
And when I think about it,I sold cuttings from JH Adriatic for a very modest price, like 25 dollars for 5 cuttings shipped.
And what is good about it is ,it will root fast and reliable, that you could have 4 out of five root.
