Very generous member

I wanted to give a big shout out to a very generous member.  I won't say which one as I don't want them deluged with requests but they know who they are.
It started as a trade. I had acquired a couple rare, potentially very desirable varieties from Bass and worked out a generous trade for 4 very nice varieties he had.  He ended up throwing in another because "Honestly, I think you should have both an XXX and a XX and I will make sure you do.".
When I received his shipment there was another "mystery fig" in the box marked "NB".  When I pm'd him asking about it he said “The NB stands for Niagara Black. I had an extra and thought you might like it.”,  All I can say is, wow, and thanks.
While I have bought and traded for several figs, I have been the benefactor of some very generous members as well. I try to pay it forward as best I can as my collection gets larger by sending cuttings to newbies and throwing in extra variaties as well when I do a trade.

Thanks again, this is a wonderful community to be a part of.  Just wish I had a bigger yard!!!  ;o)

I can't wait till I have something to trade.  I had thought growing fig cuttings was going to be easy, but I have encountered all kinds of setbacks.  I keep thinking I'm experienced - I've experienced so many things that can go wrong w/ this -- still a newbie w little success!

Greg, congratulations!  Let us know how the NB does in Arkansas.

There are some extremely generous members here whom have traded/gifted me some great varieties too.  I only wish I could thank these folks in person.

Yup, good peeps here but Im in Figberts shoes right now. Untill I can get some of these great varieties that these generous members send me its no good. I have the greenest thumb of anyone in my family but these fig cuttings are humbling me! If Ive learned any thing its that fall rooting outside is so much easier IMO than dormant spring rooting. Anyone else have the same experience?

Blueboy
you have  great start by your list there.
Where S Houston are you?
I grew up in Freeport in Brazoria Co.

All I can say is this is a very nice group of people, or this forum brings out the best of everyone.. regardless, thanks to everyone and  particularly to Jon (Encanto Farms) for providing this space for us all. Thank you Jon! Hope life continue to treat you well in So. Cal

Hey Greg, Im in Seabrook. Ive spent a lot of time in Freeport surfing and fishing. I lived in Danbury for a while also. What made you leave the great state?

LOL, I need to change my list! Most of the stuff on my growing list is dying!!! Im planning on going to war tonight with my plants. I get to stay up all night so I can start night shift tomorrow and I still have a few ideas up my sleeves on how to turn these cuttings into established plants!

Filbert, hang in there. I found the best way for me to learn was by trial and error. Mostly error for a while. You should be able to
determine what will work best for you by trying things that you see people post on the F4F. If the first method doesnt work
try something else.  You'll get it.

I'd like to echo your sentiment. I'm a longtime grower of many things (mostly ornamentals) but brand new to figs thanks to the urging of my 4 year old. We placed an order for cuttings from Trees of Joy and I recently discovered this forum. The folks I've crossed paths with thus far have been very gracious in helping us get our collection started. I sincerely appreciate it.

Blueboy,
Really miss fishing for specks and reds.
moved around a bit following my career.

I feel your pain Greg, I will catch your limit for you untill you make it back to Texas!

Hmmm there seems to be a lot of us that love fishing on this forum.... maybe we need to plan a F4F fishing trip???

I potentially would be in, es.p salt water, es.p if it tied in with FIGS!!!

Welcome Blake : )

If y'all can make it to Galveston Tx I have a nice bay boat and do a little guiding part time. I can fit 4 peeps comfortably on my boat. Just say the word!
