Jumping the gun,
I think that the 2nd person knows how to eat figs better.
The first one was like peel, peel then nibble, nibble and throw away.
What a waste!
Though, after the peeling of the green skin, that RED pulp
was a big welcome surprise!

Am I the only one who does not peel their figs? The only thing I dont eat is the stalk thats about it.

i am same as you nelson.  i like to hold by the stem and bit everything.  or cut in half and scoop out the insides while biting most of the body and base off.

I never knew anything about peeling figs until I found this site. I always thought the proper technique was to check the tree daily to see if there was enough of a crop to make preserves. Daily checks with sampling of the fruit to determine ripeness. I'm real good at daily checks and sampling but for some reason never have enough crop for preserves ;). What am I doing wrong?

I thought the first fig he ate he made a slight face like it might have been not to his likeing .
The skin looked a little tough as well. I have only dark types and usually eat the skin and all sometimes i peel but more often no.
Warrior what are you doing wrong probably nothing , one needs a large enough crop to make preserves i suppose at once or a day or so apart.
I have never made preserves but will in near future i hope.

On the first fig, he did mention that the taste was sour.  It may have been not quite ripe.

I also notice that many figs they have picked had milk at the stem.  When I pick, I wait for the neck (if present) to droop and the skin to sag, and there is never milk at the stem.  If I pick too early, there is always milk at the stem, and the fruit is not always sweet, sometimes sour, even though the inside may have lots of color.

When I was younger and knew nothing about figs I tried eating a few unripe but after getting my lips split a few times I learned to just wait until they practically fall off with a soft touch.

I have never peeled any figs. I guess people do!
