I hope he had sense enough to salvage the cuttings if not what a waste

haha you guys thought of that too but seeing how he was treating that poor little fig I doubt it. Had figs on it too what a shame.

I have been into Bonsai for over 20 yrs. I can truly say. This is not Bonsai. Just someone pruning a fig tree. Bonsai's don't happen in one day. They take years to even shape the tree. He didn't do any wiring to create any form. But some tree's you can just keep clipping them to shape. 

Personally, a waste of time. But that is just my opinion

Probably it is just the start of a Bonsai tree. If he keeps on pruning at the same heights, it will become some sort of Bonsai.
Sometimes I think that dieseler trees will become Bonsai when the trunks get 5~6" fat and the limbs become 3~4" think and then some smaller branches. They may look like Bonsai if not exotic looking Bonsai.

I agree with you, Bill. The Bonsai artists make real good Bonsai trees. Others with less patience just make a Bonsai look-like tree. It has to be something if it is old, fatish and small!

I have been into bonsai for about 10 years now and Ill have to say this guy a a joke.  What he did was potted a fig tree into a clay pot.  If this were bonsai he would have put it in a bonsai type pot with crushed(fired) clay and gravel as soil.  Then he would have wired the branches to shap in addition to cutting them.  I guess last, you can not use plants with very large leaves as good bonsai. 
What ever you do, dont show this to the GW bonsai form.  Then there will be a feud between the two forms.

If he had placed this video in the Bonsai forum then we would not have got an idea to make Bonsai-like fig tree. Now I can try using short cuts to turn one of my well branched fig tree into Bonsai looking fig tree (but not Bonsai tree).
Just look at this one
