Violeta, slow ripening this season

Strong and dry winds from the North and a total absence of the season typical cool sea-breezes are delaying ripeness of this and other varieties
These pictures do not include yet the fully ripe violetas..

As always , spectacular looking figs !!

Magnificent looking fig Lampo.
Your pictures of Violeta look exactly like my Black Madeira.

Pattee, Martin

Thank you for your comments.
Martin, I believe they belong to the same basic cultivar,...slight mutations may justify the differences.
This year they are much bigger than the previous season, checked two figs well in excess of 60 grams.
a seed float/sink test is being made to find out side influencing from wasps, well present nearby.
their thick necks keep  resisting any down bending, with the right weather this should have happened a week ago..

James (Chivas) had once questioned about the node swelling and seeing these pictures I believe they show that particular characteristic, apparently also seen on the Black Madeiras.

Francisco

This is what my Black Maderia does on the trunk and later the branches as well.

James,

Yes, there is some light intumescency along the nodes of the more recent branches which seems to dissipate when it gets to harder wood.. also the bulbous big nodules along the main trunk you seem to observe on your trees, are not present on this Violeta.
Seen in fact those bulbous nodules on the main trunk of other cultivars but not in Violeta.

My trunk diamatre has roughly doubled since that picture so if I dig around the leaves I will take another picture in the next couple days to show any difference throughout this season, it is only 3 years old so it may disappear in the future.
