Hello everyone,

Please share your experience/knowledge about the Violetta Fig.  I'm referring to the fig shown and described at violettafig.com.  I understand this is the same fig as the German fig, Bayernfeige.  Anybody here have experience with it?  Thanks.

Henry, the pictures look suspiciously like a form of Brown Turkey. Just my take. Haven't tried them.

I'm growing it. it still small, but so far seems vigorous. I can't comment on the fruit yet.

Well, the fig confusion starts for me again...haha

I saw viadei's post, and indeed all that sounds "fishy".

He was extremely pleased with his first figs. 

The BT I've grown up with down here in the deep South is nothing like the pictures I've seen of this "Violetta" fig.  They have much more purple in their color, and the pulp is red.  I guess the bottom line for me is that if Vasile gave it a 10 rating that's good enough for me - particularly in light of some of the figs he compared it favorably to.  Also, this fig is supposed to be known for its breba crop.  Our BT's down here produce little, if any, brebas.

Onward with the confusion (for me anyway)   :)

I got mine directly from Germany along with other unknown varieties. I can't wait to let it grow large to test it in my area.

Henry:I have to tell you that the second crop was mediocre in flavor and taste and not excellent like breba.
But maybe when get older it will improve let's Hope!!!

I did see your distinction with the breba being outstanding and the main crop figs being mediocre.  I guess the question that remains for me is when mature will this cultivar produce a large breba crop.  If so, this is enough for me to want it.

Does English Brown Turkey normally produce a good breba crop?  V, do you believe your Bayernfeige fig is English Brown Turkey?  Is the gist of the GW-FF discussion of the Bayernfeige-Violetta/English Brown Turkey that Bayernfeige-Violetta is simply another name for English Brown Turkey and that it does not exist as a separate cultivar?  Is there any indication or evidence to the contrary?

I did belife that is very similar withm English brn.Trk,because the sinilarity of the shape of the fruits and leafes.
But later on when the main crop was getting ripe,and tasted mediocre,I changed my mind.
Antonio has a very similar tree but his Main crop is better flavored than Breba crop.
So it might be a sport of English Brn. Trk. Selected,for good plentifull breba,and Whatever Main crop!!!!!.
This is what i believe now.

So far, from the few BV fig fruits I had last year form my very young specimen,
I was not impressed  at all; expected and hope it gets better.

Hi Henry, Yes the English Brown Turkey I have produce many breba which are descent tasting but not as tasty as the main crop.So like Herman states it is not the same tree as violetta.This summer I will cut off the breba so the main crop comes earlier.

if  (patented) BV = EBT,
buyer should beware...

no experience, but I read a lot about it in German fig forums, mostly negative reputation.

My Bayernfeige was so satisfying,that last year I discarded the plant.
It degenerated every year ,and it was suffering of a very bad case of Fig mosaic virus.
The virus was so bad,that just to be sure it  doesn't move on another more valuable cultivar.
I never had problem of virus contamination here,but I just wanted to make sure.

Not overly impress with the quality of the fruit. Fruited a main crop last year. So, will try the breba crop this year. started off with around 80 breba beginning of May.
