Violette de Bordeaux

Andy, if yours keeps its melon taste I'll trade you a cutting of mine for a cutting of yours.   As far as Panache vs VdB, everyone's entitled to their own opinion but mine is that Panache is a much better tasting fig.

Bob, sounds great. I almost picked up some VdB and Negronne cuttings this fall just to compare them to what I have.
On closer inspection, the cold snap did more damage than just the breba crop, looks like I lost a couple feet of new growth too. Oh well, it was too tall for the pot anyway. Hopefully the root system is in good shape so it will grow like mad and put out some figs next summer.

Andy

Wow Bob, that figs pulp looks like it's almost as thick as a gummy bear. You can see each individual stroke of the knife in the half on the right.
See, this is not good though; based off of what I have been reading the last month or two I am already starting to think that I need to have a Panache in the future. I have to say to myself repeatedly "stop it..your plate is full...". I think I'm going to have to place Panache on the long list, meaning if I decide to give someone the axe(a fig tree not a person) it will be the next in line to fill the vacancy.

Does anyone have  both Panache and Battaglia Green? Strawberry jam seems to be a similar description for both, do they taste nearly the same?

Very Nice! I hope mine makes it.

Hiya. I just purchased my first fig tree--a VdB, Dave Wilson from Home Depot. I had been looking for it for some months.

Is there a difference in the Dave Wilson trees vs. other ones like ones from Raintree, etc?

BTW: the pics look tasty. How would you store them (if you wanted to do so)?

I trust raintree, their products are always good as well as Dave Wilson UNLESS they mislabeled

I forgot to post photos of the second fig that ripened in my grow room.  There was something coating the lens so they're all fuzzy.  This time I decided to pick it in a juicier stage of ripeness.

It was very delicious  :)

For storage you could dry them, freeze them, make jam, can them in a simple syrup or even, I suppose, pickle them.

i can't wait till june. my VdB started setting breba. not many, just few. but that will give me something early to enjoy. along with Kathleen's Black and Paradiso Gene, i'm going to have some breba to enjoy in may/june time. can't wait.. i'm tired of dry figs.

Zone envy!
