violette de bordeaux/ early violet

I received my figs from Mr. James Robins earlier this week.  They are nice sized plants, but one was supposed to be violette de bordeaux and is tagged early violet.  Does anyone know if it is the same variety?  I looked on the varieties page and it looks like it may be a different fig.  I wanted to know so I can still be watching to get the correct variety.

If it is a different fig, does anyone have it and how is the flavor?

I believe James reused labels that were printed with early violet but wrote the real name on the same label with a marker.
I got one from him like that. You can always check with him..
to answer your question, they're not the same fig.

VdB leaves should be noticeably pointy:

Jon is correct with the shape of the leaf. However I don't think the tree you got has leaves at this point.

There are no leaves on the plant.  It had one shriveled looking fig on it that I pulled off.  When I flipped the tag over, it did say negronne (which he lists a synonym for violette de bordeaux).  It was so faded that I never would have noticed it had  Bass not told mentioned that  labels were reused.

It looks like I have the correct variety.  Thanks for the help.

My Edible Landscaping origin VdB has this type of leaf. Do you see any leaves of this type on your VdB/Negronne/Beer's Black? The figs are compatible with VdB.

Mr. Robin told me he stopped offering Early Violet. I think he told me it leafed out too early in the spring and could be damaged by frost...
