Alan, as far as a Barnissotte black and Violette de Sollies are concerned, a respected member of the community who has both, told me that these two are not the same.
In his zone, the Barnissotte black ripens one month earlier than VDS and is superior in taste.
So I was wondering about Noire de Barbentane. In his catalog, Baud claims that it is a pretty similar variety to the Bourjasotte Noire.
Another member on eBay claimed that:
Noire De Barbentane is related to Barnisotte Black but ripened earlier and got better rain tolerance.
I am now convinced that using the four names Bourjasotte Noire, Violette de Sollies, Barnissotte Noire and Parisienne to desribe the same fig is wrong.
Perhaps Bourjasotte Noire = Barnissotte Noire and Parisienne is a more general term used to describe the commercial VDS variety.
After this exercise, I am going to use these names as follows:
(Bourjasotte Noire= Barnissotte Noire)
(Parisienne= Violette de Sollies)
As far as Noire de Barbentane is concerned, depending on your zone it would be a matter of preference between this one and its cousin namely the (Bourjasotte Noire= Barnissotte Noire) .
