vista

Hello,

Has anyone in growing zone 6 RI or similar growing conditions have any luck with growing a vista or peters honey, and if so what have your experiences with them thus far.Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all
George

I am sure that gorgi and Bass grow them in PA and NJ. Probably the closest data you will find.

I have Vista growing in a container. It has a breba crop now, it also ripens it main crop. It's a good tasting fig. Not sure how it will be if grown in ground. Peter's honey didn't produce for me yet.

Cannot comment on the Peter's Honey (do not have one),
but I do like my Vista (Mission). Though the leaves are different,
the ripe fruit tends to look very similar to another good fig - the VDB.

i have a peter's honey i bought last year from willis orchard.  bought as a bareroot in june, set out and given drip irrigation, virtually no growth, just a few leaves.  knocked back to the ground by winter, now it's coming out as a bush and looks to be growing well.

i'll have to be honest, given the poor quality of most of the plants i recieved from willis, i have little faith in that company and i am unsure they've given me the correct varieties.  until i grow them out and they are verified by members here on the forum, i take them all with a grain of salt.  time will tell.

I had a Vista but I killed it a couple Winters ago but I am trying to root a cutting now, Doesn't look promising.

The Peters Honey holds true to its name "Honey" and juicy. If your lucky enough it can grow to the size of a green pear.

I am air-layering three branches as we speak, One is already promised to Gene.

Peters Honey is one of my favorites.

Thanks for the help guys much appreciated.

I have a peters honey in a pot in zone 7.  I got it last year and it gave me a ton of figs for a 3 foot tree.  Almost every leaf node had a fig on it.  I know I should have thinned it since it was such a young tree but I didnt and the figs were very good.  This year its doing fine, I will have to wait to see If My last years greed will make me pay this year.  If I could remember where I bought the tree I would definately buy another one.

Judging from the Encanto photos, the Peter's honey fig seems to have a fairly open eye. Has anyone had problems with souring?
