Want seeds, v2015 ?

Last year several people germinated successfully the seeds that I had available as seen at
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/want-seeds-7138323

This season the first seeds are already coming along!

What I have is what you see in the container.
The variety is not important. I can say that the figs were super tasty , crunchy, and fully ripe.

Please PM me if you want to play with them.

Should be enough for 4 people or so. Will be mailed in a First class envelope.

Thank you for your help.

There is a little more left

Thank you , all.
I received enough requests to claim all the seeds.

But, I will have more, please stay tuned!

Thank you, all, again!

The seeds are going out in the First Class white envelopes today.
Please let me know if they don’t get to you by the end of the week or so.

They have been kept in a moist environment and are best to start right away.

I would appreciate if you post any updates in this thread!

Happy figging!

let me know if you get any more.  I'd like to play around a few seeds and pay for the postage.

Dennis,
Please pm me your address

May I ask if the variety your getting seeds from is a Smyrna type?

Truman,
I mentioned this in some other threads, I have no way to verify since all my figs are pollinated, including the Commons too.

Thanks for the specification if you get any more I'd be happy to take them off your hands.

Please PM me your address.

How long does it take to grow a fruit bearing plant from a seed? as opposed to a twig?

It took me 18 months in this case:
http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/from-a-seed-to-a-fig-in-18-months-ripe-photos-added-7026492?&trail=50

It is about from 6 months and up for a healthy twig.

I'm just trying to educate myself a little...

As I understand it, Smyrna and San Pedro fig trees require pollination.  Caprifig trees are used to pollinate these trees, but need a special wasp?  If you don't have this special wasp, would it make sense growing seeds from any of these trees?

Are common figs self-pollinating?

Are open eye type figs usually associated with a need for a pollinating wasp?

I would start over here:
http://waynesword.palomar.edu/arbimg10.htm

There are a number of other resources online too.
You could also use a search function on this forum since many wasp topics have been covered already.

Yes, you need a special wasp, Blastophaga psenes. The common figs do not require pollination but may benefit from it.
An open eye in the figs is not associated with the “need” to pollinate, although the figs may split as a result of over pollination.

Thanks for that excellent link greenfig.

Have a few more from Black Mission, Unk Pastilliere, VdB, Grasa Seattle Purple, and Golden Celeste.
The figs were damaged by rodents and birds but have many seeds

After I mailed the seeds, I placed a few in s moist paper towel inside a sandwich plastic bag.
They sprouted! They were pollinated!

Any success with you, guys and girls ? :)

Hi Igor,

I kept about 50 Niagara Black seedlings from last years seeds you sent that are now about 18" tall planted late spring inground (ran of of pots lol).

Tyler

Tyler,

Thanks for letting me know! I am really curious how many will still stand next spring, after your Canadian winter.
If the summer is hot enough, you may even get a fig or 2.
Any seedlings resemble the mother plant?
Please keep us updated!

They should be good since I can easily bend them to the ground and cover them. Most of them have similar leaves.. There is one that has long finger leaves and I wondered if a stray seed from another variety got mixed in otherwise it definitely is different looking lol. We're having hot weather here lately... 30+ C

Tyler

Nice!
I was really careful not to mix the seeds from different varieties.
There is always a chance of a stray seed but I think it is very low.
And we do not know how the father looks, that might make a difference :)

Have sinking seeds from an LSU Black, maybe for 2 people.
PM me if interested.

Damn those birds but now I have some Preto seeds if anybody wants to try the germination game.

Taken but there might be more in the nearest future.
Please stay tuned
