Wanted: Maltese Falcon and Beauty

Check your P.M

I'm with Rafed.  Good luck and best wishes.  Maltese Beauty still commands a much higher price and is more rare.

I paid some pretty crazy prices in the past year and don't really see anyone promoting things to jack up prices.  Sometimes I've had to write people for information when they had something for sale and suggested that they posted that on the forum but they were reluctant to do so for fear of being criticized for promoting their sale.  The fact that I have written about some figs that I really liked in the past year and that I'm selling them are certainly related but not directly.  I have given things away or sold very cheaply but also am trying to recoup my expenses.  It's obvious to me that I won't recoup my expenses related to some varieties but that's okay with me too.  For some, figs are entirely a hobby.  For some, it's a combination of hobby and business.  For some, like myself, I have considerable farm expenses.  When I can't handle the work load I pay someone to pot plants, water plants, weed plants, etc.

Jake, it's all relative.  I once worked on assignment in Louisiana for 2 weeks and for a few days our crew of four was working in Alexandria.  We worked like crazy and the only good part of the job was the nice locals and the food (it was in August so weather definitely was not nice).  One of the locals suggested a place for dinner.  He told us to take a particular road and drive a particular distance and to look for a restaurant on our left at the top of the mountain.  Good thing some of us were watching better than the driver as we shot right past it.  We guessed the elevation of that mountain was maybe 100-200 feet!

You didn't open a can of worms. You made a very reasonable offer in my opinion. I was just trying to bring to the service how overly priced fig cuttings can get. Seems I may have opened the can worms! Im all about giving and sharing as I believe you will get good things in return. Just today I sent out 4 packages in the mail to forum members. Some in trades and some just because I can. It felt good and made me smile;)

I agree with Rafed, if you don't put a price and just say you are willing to pay that should be sufficient.  I think your offer is more than reasonable in the first place but that is just me, hope you get these varieties and they root well for you.

welcome tylt33.  great story and i sure hope you get the figs you want.

The Maltese Falcon has landed! Now just the Beauty. Thanks for all of your support everyone.

That's good to hear.
I have the MF but still too small to do anything with it.
I had one cutting of the MB from the original source but it failed.
However, I have an air-layer coming from another fig friend when things warm up. It is already layered, rooted and cut to my knowledge. So I can't wait.

And not to worry about putting out a request. I did the same thing when I first joined.
Just like you, I never looked for a handout and always included: I am willing to pay a fair and reasonable price. And I meant it.

So far so good for you and again, good luck.

I see nothing wrong with your request, I am guilty of doing the same. Even though I offered to pay most people asked for nothing in return and I was surprised to see the generousity that came my way. I can't wait till the day that I can pay it forward!

Tylt33,pls pm me.Great story....I'll help you out with the others...MB,Red Lebanese,CDDN,CDDB,RDB and Preto, for free.  Happy New Year !!!

125 fruit trees on a quarter acre....sounds like you've got yourself a fruit tree forest! How did you manage to squeeze so many trees into such a small space? Would love to see pics...it sounds amazing.

Very nice of you, Marius.  Hip hip hooray! :)

Way to go Marius; you are a very good fig-man!
[Things DO average out (sooner or later...); may the fig-gods return all your (and others) good fig deeds.]

Wow , Marius, amazing. What I was saying though was that I had already purchased CDDN/B/G from forum members via Ebay... I actually purchased Red Lebanese and CdDB from you, LOL! I'm bidding on three of your auctions at the moment too, I was thrilled wih the last cuttings I received from you. I will pm you about the MB though. AMAZING!!!
