WANTED---LSU PURPLE--MUST BE FROM SOUTHERN LOUISIANA

I would really like an original LSU Purple cutting.  I would prefer the cutting be from Louisiana, but will take any as long as there is no doubt of it being a genuine LSU Purple.  I realize that a cutting from Louisiana does not guarantee heritage but it should increase odds, Don't know.  I have two small trees (like really small) but I would like to do a cutting also just in case.

Willing to purchase/pay for shipping/come and get it, whatever makes sense, LIKE ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PURSUIT MAKES SENSE!! LOL

UC Davis offers dormant cuttings of LSU Purple.  They're in California, but I would trust that they have the correct label on their trees.  The accession number is DFIC 263.

Their website: http://www.ars.usda.gov/Main/docs.htm?docid=12146

Would you settle for some from central Texas? :)

LOL, If he wouldn't, I would! LOL
I'd be glad for any, since I only have a bare few in my collection ,

ABSOTIVELY, I will be more than happy to take anything from the great state of Texas.

Ediblelandscaping still lists an LSU as available.  Not sure what the source is or if they would even know.

Thx to all.  I know that I can find just about anything from retail sources, but, one of the neat things about this endeavor is the pursuit of the item, in this case fig plants/trees, I personally enjoy the idea of building my collection thru interaction with those that share my interests.  IMHO I can go buy it/them but the thrill of the pursuit is somewhat diluted/diminished.

Thx to all,

udaman,  looking at the UC Davis site I can't find 263 listed anywhere.  While I have already submitted my request to Mary Parker (she provided a very nice reply), I would like to consider it for next year.  Is there a page 2 of the website listing or some other way to access DFIC0263 via a secret handshake?

dkirtexas, I appreciate where you're coming from.  I could also just go to the farmer's market and buy some figs (substandard perhaps, but no muss or fuss).  I like the idea of community and starting from a bare branch or a twig growing in a 16 ounce cup.

Thanks.

AndyInNYC,

You opened my eyes to something here.  Here's the link I used to search the GRIN database, and it lists all their varieties, but not all are available for distribution.  Look at this link, and then click on LSU Purple, look at the description and you'll see it's unavailable.  You'll also notice other vars are also unavailable for distribution.  It may be a patent issue, I'm not sure.  If that's the case, then we can't legally swap cuttings either.

Sorry for confusing things.  Maybe if they're contacted, they'll make cuttings available.
