Warm Spell - Midwest

After a cooler than normal May to date the warmth is kicking in temps will appraoch 90 for next several days here and go eastward.
I can actually say we are warmer than Paradise for a few days anyways and probably just as warm as parts of Florida.
Late next week temps will go back down to 70.

Seems like you have some nice fig growing weather ahead. Much better than last year it seems for you. It has and will be upper 80's the big thing is night time temps mid 70's the ground just stays hot (yuck). no rain to speak of the past month and none in the 10 day forecast. Our rainy season official start was May 20th (Yea Right). The in ground fig is heavily mulched as well as pots and that really seems to help not only evaporation but shielding the roots from sun burn like an SPF 50 sun screen. :o)

Yes, Rafed, we were 56F this morning. Minnesota was 30 degrees warmer than Idaho. And they are predicting snow in the sierras this weekend.

Just think I had on long sleeves only days ago. My tomatoes are loving this weather. The humidity is creeping up with spot showers.  The heat is on!

But, on the other hand, I have as much as 4 feet of growth on my trees, and quite a few figs forming.  It is also good weather for acclimating my newly rooted plants to the great outdoors. I have about 500 plants under my Tangerine tree.

There are still about 1500 cuttings rooting (or not) in the greenhouse.

We're supposed to be cool all week - pretty normal for this time of year. So I had to turn the heater back on in the greenhouse for a few hours a night - in addition to the solar heat from the black plastic which covers it currently. In a couple weeks, no more black plastic, no more heater, put the shade back on it, and turn the mister on to moderate the heat during the day. It still beats 100F in Phoenix this time of year. I'm willing to move into summer a little slower.

Jon,

For a minute there I was going to feel sorry for you. But I guess you've got it all under control now. That's a good thing.

50s is good sleeping weather/temps.

But if it gets a little colder or the snow decides to get a little closer then Google: How to walk on snow in Southern California.

There you will have access to step by step on to how to deal with the white stuff.

Martin and I would have no problem illustrating step by step pictures with Crayola Crayons and faxing them to you.

Your call

LOL Rafed that was funny thing to say.

thinking ahead we are about 150 days to our first possible frost with many of cool nights prior around mid September not friendly to figs.
C'mon figs grow !!!

Martin,

He asked for it. That's why he mentioned my name. He was expecting that kind of response. LOL LOL

But the funny thing is I was in Saskatoon, Sk. a few days ago and it was in the upper 80s.
The next day I was in Three Forks, Mt. and it was cold and in the mid 30s at night. The Mountain Peaks are still packed with snow.
But boy was that wind pushing me around driving through South Dakota and Iowa yesterday. I am grossing at 77,100 lbs and it was like nothing. My shoulders are sore!

Right now I'm sitting at 80 F in Hebron, Oh.

Can't wait to get home this Thursday or Friday. Just got my Panache fig tree a couple days ago. My wife sent me the pics.

I pick on Rafed enough. I have to give him a "softball" every once in a while.

Did you say Softball?
More like Snowball soon. HeHeHe

Stock up on the hot chocolate while you're at it.

Another day warmer than  ( Arnold S. impression ) "C A L I F O R N I A"
here as its 90 as i type this.
Romeo our Yorkie ran to back of yard and i gave chase as he tried to grab a young baby robin it was a good 125 ft run for me as the Robins relatives swarmed overhead not too happy about the situation.
Young bird luckily was able to hop and fly a few feet off ground before i got to Romeo and bird is A- Ok.
Sure made me break out in a sweat from that run afterwards when i was looking at the patio fig plants and reminded me how hot out it is , 90 is not common here for this time of year .

Sounds like Romeo has a future as a fitness trainer--and you don't even have to pay for a gym membership!

We were mid 70s today - rather nice. So, 2-3 days warmer than CA, which makes the score about 150 to 3, if I counted correctly?!!!!

Yes the score 150 -3  for warm days you have over on us

we had over on California Western Conference Champs and number 1 seeded team    4  -  0

Chicago  4     California (San Jose Sharks)    0 - goose egg           which was a sweep .

 ; )

OUCH!!!     Blackhawks vs Flyers should be a great Stanley Cup Series

Hockey only matters when your weather is loosing 150 to 3. ;-))

Well,

Since we're going to keep scores then we'll just have to throw away the rule books.
Time for a couple grand slams.

I sent the fat lady on her way. Won't be any singing tonight.
The game is just getting started.
