Well, damn...

Left my trees (large and small) out last night.  According to my phone when I woke up in the morning, it was 31º outside and had been there for about 2.5 hours.  It climbed back up to 34º within the hour, but everything was subjected to freezing temps for at least 2 hours.  Not sure if frost set or not.

Hoping this didn't kill off some of my smaller plants that are less than a couple months old and thin/short/not very well developed.

All your figs are still good [just going nighty nighty] ...

I agree with Gorgi.  We have gone below freezing once or twice here and my potted plants are all still outside.

We have had a cpl nights in that range, Jason and the result was and will be that the soft/tender tips will wither and die off. Hopefully the very small ones will come back from the hardwood/trunk portion. Good luck!

Jason,

I was concerned when this happened last year...my first winter with figs in pots. Not as much anymore. All survived the 1st frost which made the leaves drop even more rapidly. I did not bring them in until the temps were consistently at or below freezing at night. I agree with Gorgi and Ruben...it helps them sleep and tip damage at worst. I was still worried but after what I witnessed this growing season, I am less concerned and hoping that I can leave them out even longer...maybe the entire winter. I have a few that I do not want to risk it but all the others get to ride it out.

All my spring rooted plants have passed through 26F~27F overnight. The first time it happened two weeks ago, the leaves were still OK (live & green) the next day (probably the ground was still warm and no frost !). Last week it went down to 27F again and this time the ground was not as warm and there was frost also so the next day most of the leaves had dropped or barely hanging. Most of the new plants were OK by the look (& are still OK) except the raw green stem on some had the very top part softened by the freeze.
Well they are still outside because our attention went to some other urgent matters. Tomorrow they will be coming to the garage before the snow flurries start.
Keep hope your plants will be OK.

A couple are nothing but thin green shoots and leaves. Like my Daupine that was so generously shared with me a couple months ago. Keeping fingers crossed, hope you guys are right!
