What a difference a couple months makes

Pardon the finger:)  They were started as cuttings in November and planted out about March 1.  The pic on the right was taken March 18 2013 and the left side today.  With the shade at the end you could not see them all but the black mission towards the far end is the winner at about 4 feet tall and I have been pinching them.  Just love how fast the figs grow.

Fantastic looking trees ! Amazing they are so young - warm/hot weather !

Looking good.

Wow!  They look great!  I have zone envy.

Unless you stay after them you will soon find you have planted them too close to the fence. I did that about 10 years ago with 75 rabbiteye blueberries. I now cannot get between them and the fence (with pruning). My in ground figs would need at least twice the room yours have.

I know they are close to the fence.  The neighbor has a black thumb but loves figs and wants them hanging over the fence.  On the opposite side of the yard I planted that hedge 10 feet from the fence as it is woods and did not want to make it that easy for the tree rats.

Wow!  Did you fertilize them any?

Frank,

yes and they are mulched heavily which really helps here.  I have just given them ammonium sulfate...it is 21-0-0.  Yes it has sulfur which lowers the PH and they should hate it but they don't.....the stuff is like plant steroids.

Very nice.  I hope to get at least half that growth out of mine this year.  I planted several in the ground a couple days ago at the height yours started out with.

Lookin GOOD, Wills.

Looking good Wills...I'm also looking forward to pictures of that circle of fig trees that you planted around the large tree in your front yard...thanks for the update.

Vince,

That bunch around the tree is not as large.......the ground there had never been mulched so the plants are a bit slower taking off but are growing well.

Wills...good luck with your project...the next couple of years should be really interesting around your place...looking forward to future updates.

Very nice young trees.  I'd have to agree, the hot temps and early start to the season for the south certainly seems to favor great green growth.
