what are some interesting Belleclare figs?

i heard Malta Black, and i should be able to get a #93 (Fico Nera Napolitano) in spring. what are some of the more interesting one? i should also have Popp's Purple if my Socorro Black makes it.

Bullet -Malta Black was decent last season on my young Belleclare plant but first season bearing the figs.

In 2009, 2010, 2011,2012 i asked about Belleclare's #93 (Fico Nera Napolitano) on this forum and another, to date the one on the forum all leads back to 1 person only that i know of and after emailing back and forth with that person on 3-4 occasions i had to pass on it not because i not trust this person but that persons source it actually came from - total stranger unknown.

martin,

do you know of any source for the picture of the BC #93? if there is a picture of leaf and fig, that can be compared to see if they are the same.

Iv'e never seen a picture anywhere and the original source said they sold there plant in our correspondence.
Was it real is anyones guess as it came to them from total stranger.

martin,

i guess only way to tell if the BC #93 is real is to get some info from the original source that had the nursery or like you have been looking for. someone who get it directly from Belleclare.

edit: once i have my #93, i'll grow it and post it here so we can talk more about it.

Very interesting , I look forward to this discussion also.

Thanks Bullet i would like to see your pictures and others also one day in future .

#93 Fico Nera Napolitano-A popular Napolitano fig from Naples also called Fico Piccolino. Small to
medium, purple/black, blood red center.

Hey Martin. I have been seeing your requests for BC #93 at least since 2010. I hope you can make that quest complete some day soon. I know you've seen hungryjacks post on this other recent thread:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Belleclare-figs.-6138766?trail=100

Seems he may possibly know someone with a connection in that department. Do ya Jack?

@ Pete. I just started a closely related thread. Hope you don't mind my linking it here:  http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox.com/post/Anyone-Growing-These-Belleclare-Varieties-6151731

Martin. I think one of my Belleclare quests is going to become Black Zadar =
"A large, flat, round fig. Thick skin, large eye. Blood red center. Heavy filling fig from Zadar, Croatia. This one's unique - a stand out."

Anyone know anything more about that one?

Bill no i do not know the member but perhaps it will come up one day in a thread.
I really enjoyed the pictures he posted and the reading about Hardy Chicago from Belleclares personal notes.

Just searched back and found several of my threads asking about #93 in 2009 -here is 1 of them,

Jack seems to know quite a bit about the Belleclare varieties. He might be the right guy to get in touch with. He said over on another thread that he was about to head out on a trip to China. So he might be out of touch with the forum for awhile. Couldn't hurt to send him a PM though. I'm sure he'd be open to chatting with a fella who has roots in "the old country" like yourself ;-) .

Martin, I just clicked on that link above. It's got to feel a little ominous when you start a thread and not a single person replies - nada. I got a picture in my head of a deserted old west town where you hear the wind blowing and see a tumbleweed go by - anybody there? Maybe it's time to give Martha that call - LOL!

Well, there's Pop's Purple...  Don't know what number that is...

Bill, I have black zadar and will post a picture of it soon.  It is very unique in shape and great tasting too.

Spoke to him in a thread says Martha does not trade airlayer for airlayer only cuttings. LOL
Seems to have a great sense of humor which is always enjoyable.

Seems to know and have contact with Chris and its nice to know that there still enjoying things alive and hopefully well in retirement, it would have been a nice to have met them at the nursery back then and talked .

Bill thats a good picture you painted by the way.  ; )

Found some black zadar pictures from last summer

What makes a fig 'Belleclare'?

Greg there are some follks that seek out certain figs that the nursery sold .
Kinda like when i mention my Sal EL.

Malta Black BC - BC noting Belleclare
Sals EL  - EL noting Edible Landscaping

Oh I see.  So Belleclare is just a nursery that presumable isn't anymore?

Yes the two Italians that owned the property and nursery retired.

i saw jon's updated cutting list with Popp's Purple and Pratt Purple. i know  Popp's Purple is something BC used to sell. how about Pratt's Purple?

@Martin

First of all - why is your intense/special interest in the BC#93 fig?
Second - fig pedigree papers may be somewhat hard to get...

Desc:

i think it has something to do with BC#93 being dark figs with blood red center. being a small fig also helps :)

George a while back you answered in a thread why i may be attracted to it and Bullet says it well Dark/blood red center/small fig.

Its getting harder for me myself doing all the work properly growing them in containers and thus why i been selective and get rid of even more than what comes in to yard .
