What Are Your Good Places To Hunt For Figs

Well, the season is about to start and I ready to do some fig tree hunting. In
the past I have visited flea markets, ethnic churches(church sales), garage sales in
ethnic communities, attend ethnic festivities and drive-by's checking for fig trees &
talking figs to new friends. In fact, I would be checking on a tree that this 80+ yr old lady
is telling me that came from Italy. It delivers a reliable yum-yum crop(dark). She sold the
house to the city of Vancouver. The whole place would be torn down by the city.

Any other suggestions on places to check out.

During the summer when the tress are full of leaves I take detours thru known ethnic communities.
I found at least 12 trees last summer.

In the backyard of forum members :)

not much ethnic area down here. have to look for transplants from ny or nj. and some church yards seems to have one or two. other than that, it's all BT.

I hit my old neighborhood in the DA BRONX NY....

Yes, I remember the many figs sold by Italians over at COMMERCIAL DR in Vancouver. May
have to time my visitations to check it out. There is a large population of Iranians too in
North Vancouver and I would do some visitations to chat & find out.

Here at this time of year cruising the ethnic areas you are bound to see many a pile of plastic/boards and tarps.
make a note and come back in mid-May and I am sure these folks would be more than happy to give you a branch maybe even with some roots.

Well, it appears I am the only fig person in the entire area for miles around.  Ethnic?  Not one Greek restaurant here, and the Italian ones are mostly chains.  We have BBQ galore and Mexican.  The only tree I have seen here is a huge Black Mission on the property of the local nursery.  I'll just be getting cuttings from forum members who actually live in places where people grow figs!

I've already seen a number of figs growing in the Charlotte area.  In Mooresville they have a animal park and when I went through there were many huge fig trees with figs,  It's called Lazy 5.  Figs were mostly dark.  I suspect many of the figs here are the same strain.  One of my new friends say here family has a fig tree that has been growing for years.  Haven't seen that one yet.

slowly drive around neighborhoods that were build in the 60s or earlier. Here that is where the fig trees are.

There is a website, national coverage, it shows all fig trees on public spaces all over the country-a good way to score free cuttings. Don't know if the site includes Canada though.
