I agree with Jon too! For my birthday, my husband got me this grafting tool, which I hope makes grafting easy! I have stayed away from caprifigs because I feared we are not in wasp country (we have an abundance of the kind nobody wants), but the fig wasp, although it is in California, I'm not sure it lives specifically where I do.
I plan to practice grafting both on grapevine root stock, and on figs, olives, avocados and citrus. Would love to have different varieties on 10 in-ground fig trees, and the same with the other fruit trees. The vineyard gets most of the space, of course.
You are very lucky to have a large tree on which to graft the fig varieties of your dreams!
