What Do Fig Wives Do?

OK, true confession. This is Vito's wife and I am posting under my husband's forum name.

While Vito was enjoying the Staten Island Fig Fest, I was taking good of his trees. However, just so you know, this is what fig wives do. We pick and eat them WITHOUT weighing and photographing them first! Oh, the pure joy of simply walking out to pick a ripe fig and just eating it! We dont even look at the name of the fig. (Can you imagine). I had one that was so sweet I had to fight the bees to get it. Which one was it? I didn't look! I just enjoyed it!

Vito, This is what fig wives do!!!!

Haha,  I love this.   But sharing fig experience is so much nicer with a pic, and some folks will tell you if no photo  it did not happen. You might not have looked at the name, but I bet you remember where that tree is

My fig wife just eats half of every fig I pick, she doesn't even have to walk out to get it  :)

I have to split mine in 4... Well, the oldest went to college, now it's three.

Since we have Vito's wife here, how did he convince you to let him cure meat in the house?

Lol so funny!

Lol wow

Haha, I like her.

Haha that's great.......

Thanks for sharing, I think you have us all thinking about what our significant others would say in the same situation.

Mrs Vito, you are a gem!  :D

@eboone/james- I should have added that to my list: Fig wives eat the whole darn fig! Yes, the entire fig.  I can't tell you have many halves and quarters I've eaten.  I want the whole flippin' fig!

@james - as far as Vito curing meat, he has a pretty good set up in his man cave.  And the finished product is pretty amazing.  Vito is a pretty humble guy, but as his wife, I can tell you that he is very talented.  He can grow anything and can cook anything.  So even though I might complain a little about how many trees he has (okay I complain a lot!) or that there is more meat hanging downstairs than in a butcher shop (he has a wine cellar that he converted for curing) the end results are awesome.

 I just have one rule:

I don't care how many trees you have, my car is going in the garage this winter!

Just remember, if you make a fig wife mad, she can switch the tags on your trees and you will never know it!  Be kind to your fig wife!

Lol I love it definitely brightened up my day.

So funny.  :)
I'll bet all fig wives can relate.  I've already tried taking over my wife's garage bay, but she axed that right away.

I just about fell out of my chair on that!  :)

You made my day.   LOL

That's great! Thanks for sharing!

I have a fig boyfriend who's the same way. I'm out of town for a work retreat, and he's been telling me he's just been scarfing down all the figs without documenting any of them. He normally waits and lets me do the photographing next to a quarter ritual (you know what I'm talking about) if the fig is good enough, but sent me this as a joke yesterday:

Hey Vito,

There has been more than a few times I've seen your fig pics, as well as all the times I looked at yo the pics of your capicola and thought you were a lucky guy. Now we see how truly lucky you are.

My wife eats half and says that was good,, can we get rid of that variety now?

Hi all.
I see my wife had some fun while I was away working at the fig fest,
I had to spend the night talking to people who I like, eating figs, paw paw and drinking Ice cold beer, poor me! :-)

James, I know how lucky I am, I had to go through three wife's to finally
find the love of my life.

Vito

Ha, well done Vito. Third time's a charm buddy. And you trust Mrs Vito with your forum password ? Lol. Now I know it's not the Creeters stealing all my figs while im out having fun( playing soccer ).Every time a fig goes missing Mrs K responds with a " the darn squirrel again" and a huge grin on her face!!! Thanks a lot Mrs Vito! Now I do know what's up!
You guys are awesome, thanks for posting.

Vito, Sounds like your wife is as cool as you are! It's funny what she said. Sounds just like my wife.

Sorry I missed you guys at the fest.

Sorry you couldn't make it Art. Was lots of fun with our fig crew. And I am honored to say that Vito is a friend of mine who also brought along some figs that he cured in Galliano that was off the charts.
I've been dreaming of those ever since
My wife loves eating my figs and puts up with my obsession. Can't ask for more than that

Switching labels? Hahaha. I hope my husband will never get the idea of switching labels

My wife loves figs, esp the Negronne that we had for the first time this year. But I think she likes the Hardy Chicago about as much. Years ago we used to by honey sweet Tashkent figs that she loved, so I really want to grow a good yellow, but so far I've not had much luck. I got cuttings from a Tahskent yellow fig, but the gnats got them. I bought a LSU Gold, but it did nothing this year. I've also started an unknown local yellow, but it also did nothing this year. For some reason yellow figs don't like me.

My wife crochets A LOT! She make blankets for expecting mothers in our church. Here is one blanket she just finished yesterday.  It took her a couple of weeks.  This blanket is over 6 feet long and 4 feet wide. I had to lay it on the floor just to snap this photo!
