I bet it's a fig, Cecil. I have a 2nd year fig I rooted in the ground last year and then potted up in an Air Pot (the pots with lots and lots of holes which promote a mass of roots up and down the plant) late last season. I wrapped the outside of the Air Pot in plastic wrap before I put it in the garage for the winter to reduce water loss and left it on when the plant began leafing out in the garage in early spring. After several weeks, a leaf just like yours began poking out from the pot, so I poked a hole in the plastic wrap to allow the leaf to develop, hoping to eventually get two plants off of that cutting. Of course, I proceeded to leave that plant and about 20 others out one very cold late March night and all of the new growth froze. The fig eventually recovered, but it never resprouted the new shoot from the side hole.
