You will find that not all cuttings will make it no matter what you do. If you can get 70 or 80% to root, you're doing very well. It is the law of nature. Only the fittest survives. You need about 45 days for your cuttings to root. If I see leaves earlier, that's a good sign but no guarantee of rooting.
The most important thing that you can do to improve your chances of success is to control humidity and not disturb those roots.
Having said that, you should be most careful when re-potting. Once I insert my cuttings and cover them, I never touch them again until ready to up-pot.
I now use a jiffy pot #3 inside my cup that I could transfer directly to a larger pot without disturbing the roots.
By the way my cuttings root without any hormone. I just insert them in moisture control potting soil from home depot.
I recently received a Preto Fig from a generous member of this forum that I just planted in one of those SIP's from Wall mart and leaves pushed out almost immediately.
I never touched it again. This is how it looks after approximately two month:
