What I had for dinner and guests

These are the figs I had for dinner last night. And this gobbler and his 3 buddies picked a few as well before I had the dog run them off.

The sculpture of the vulture and the organza bags (I use green) are working very well. I had a nocturnal critter show up one night and steal a bunch of figs and the bags they were in but my dog immediately stepped up his "guarding through the glass" campaign and theft has been relegated to the ants, stink bugs and these magnificent birds recently.

This AM my Peter's Honey and Longue D'Aout figs were harvested for the first time and I had a few truly ripe St. Ritas. The advantages of having many small plants rather then a few large ones is obvious this morning. As I haven't unpacked my canning equipment yet the disadvantages aren't as clear.

If only I had a way to keep this up for 12 months.

That looks so good!! Nice job.

Pheasant under glass and a fig side dish sounds awesome! :D

The figs are a gorgeous sight and so is the turkey. I think you're blessed to have them visit you.

Thanks all.
These wild turkeys only visit every once in a while. These are all gobblers. There's a flock of hen's with just one gobbler that comes by more often.
This is such a weird year weather wise here in N. Virginia that I'm really happy to get the figs I'm getting. It's odd -- I have Celestes that I've had for 6+ years that are producing figs that are splitting for the first time. I stopped watering for just 2 days and the leaves are all turning yellow and dropping. As it gets later the varieties known to be prone to splitting will have to be watched carefully. All in all though I'm greatful that most of the figs I'd hoped for are ripening.
