What is causing this leaf issue?

This adriatic cutting has been potted for a couple weeks now and I noticed over the last few days the ends of the leaves are wilting.. turning almost brittle. Is this a sign of root rot? Any ideas what can be done to stop whatever is happening?

Doesn't look serious. Probably a water issue. HALT! That does NOT mean water more. It is more likely that increased humidity would be a better answer, to lessen water loss.

Thanks Jon!

I love your little nursery. After water I'd wonder about insects.

yeah.. water issue. it won't hurt the tree.

Tyler,
I don't have an answer to your question, but I just wanted to let you know that your fig trees look great.  Good luck with all of them.

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

Tyler,

I had similar looking leaves on plants that had received fertilizer (Miracle Grow) that had been mixed at normal strength (1-1/2 tablespoon per gallon). For young plants I start off with 1/2 teaspoon and work up to 1 tablespoon after a few months. The plants were fine after I reduced the fertilizer.

Tyler,

I have also noticed this on some of my cuttings started in 32 oz deli containers.  It seems that once the cuttings are transplanted to a larger container the leaves start doing better.

tyler,
have you figured this out?
being new to growing cuttings, I ran into the following scenario:
bud swells and bursts open with one or two leaflets.
the growth of these leflets halts and they eventually drop off.
Is is to much humidity onto young leaves or too dry air?
I suppose they drop for one of the two causes/
which one?
it happened to cuttings outside humidity bin as well as to cuttings inside HB.
inside HB, RH is in the range 40-68%
outside HB 20% but I mist occasionally.

Interested in what's advised.  This is something I'm going to have to deal with soon as well once I get mine out of the rooting media.

I believe it was over watered. The leaves after those grew fine and the plant really took off. I did it to another one this year too. I just won't learn lol.

How are you rooting the cuttings? Are they in cups with a potting mix? 40-68% seems low for a humidity bin. Mine is between 85-95 usually.

The cuttings outside the humidity bin have they already rooted??? My cuttings don't see outside the humidity bin until they are nicely rooted and starting to leaf out.

they were all already well rooted. cups were rootbound.
I put cuttings in SM with RH 90%.
as soon as roots show up 1/8" to 3/16" long, cuttings go into cups with coarse perlite-sifted pine bark-seedling start mix in ratio 2-2-1.
mix prewetted ahead of time moisture content 35-40%
cups go inot Humidity bin 80%RH.
When roots hit wall of cup and buds force, those with great roots go out of bin or into another bin with approx 50% RH.
I learned that when roots are solid, no bin is needed and leaves grow and harden into environment offered.

so the loss of young leaves puzzles me.
There is something they do not like, and I have to improveon it.

I see leaf curl like that all the time when moving to a lower humidity.  Some cultivars will lose the entire leaf, some will just curl the tips.  New leaves that come out after the move are fine. Have to lower humidity slowly to keep it from happening.

Sometimes, if it's just one leaf and others starting to bud (and there's plenty of roots), i'll go ahead and move it out of the humidity bin cold turkey.  That one leaf usually drops in a day or so, but the new ones that come out after it are fine.

James,
Thanks, I find your post reasuring and believe that one of the plants is about to produce new leaves.
So there will be no loss.
