What is causing this?? (pic)

It has been hotter'n you know what around here 102* the last few days,
I just put a beach umbrella over the little guy to shade it after about 2 PM.

I have been watering it regularly ( I just put some 8-8-8 fert.
on it yesterday

It is my B. Marseilles VS.......maybe it cannot live in this Texas Heat?

Input is most welcome.
Thanks

Was it in the shade right before that happened? Same sun burnt leaves appear on some of my figs when they came out of my greenhouse.

Bass,

It has been in full Sun since I planted it in-ground in March

But it has really been scorching hot here lately.

I plan on having it in the shade after about 1 or 2 pm
Unless some say not to.

thanks

Dan,

I have a 5 gal bucket with a real small hole drilled in it to where is takes about an hour to empty! I was watering once weekly until lately, I have been watering it about every 3 days.

We don't have clay soil here (real deep sandy soil)is what I have!

Maybe I'm still not watering enough? I can put a soaker hose to it if needed.

Thanks for the in-put

Dan,
I put a thermometer out there in the shade of the umbrella

It read 106* and 35% humidity IN THE SHADE........If its any hotter in Hell than it is in TX. I am going to try to stay here...

Thanks

Water well, provide shade, and wet the area all around to increase humidity. Small plants

Many thanks everybody!

I have it shaded & have the 8-8-8 on hand

Now I will water it every other day with a little 8-8-8

and water all around it for the humidity!
we will update you all when it takes off.

Thanks

Have you used any herbicide lately?  I don't know what a fig leaf might look like that was exposed?

Hi C.H.

I had used roundup in about April

I thought that might be the cause of that plant looking like it does, but I used it on the other young plants also.
I can say this.........no more roundup around young plants from me.

Thanks

Round up did that.
My neighbour,3 yrs ago sold the House, and in order to make the yard look good, contracted,a comercial landscaper to clean the weeds out.
He sprayed, including my chainlink fence, and I had this kind of Damage on The figs that were closer to the fence, and also damaged,My wegelia, and My double flowered,Rose of Sharon,so bad, that not even today they did not recovered, complettely.
Yet the figs recovered completelly the same year, but they were farther than the above mentioned trees, from the fence.

Thanks everyone!

Another "Lesson Learned"

We will keep our fingers crossed.

Cecil, i see you said something about your Dum Self and the roundup in another thread. Look all i can say from talking with you is your far from that!
Also roundup i use a lot along with some other stuff in concentrate, if thats the problem the wind must have caught the spray and onto some of your leaves. Trust me if roundup is the cause from April the plant would be caput by now so leaves are replaceable and your plant should be ok.
Oh speaking of roundup and stuff similar i spilled a good amount on my leg when i tipped over the 2 gallon spray container that was a mess good thing i had hose nearby , remember i was telling you about helping neighbor burn his wood fence, well this morning i was wacking the pickets off the end posts and the pick hit me in the leg and a little cut along with some nice swelling no big deal until a little later this morning i was cutting fence post with circular saw and laid the saw down to soon and the darn cord wrapped itself around the blade, i took blade off and cord was kinda shredded so i cut it and the 3 wires i soldered and good ole electric tape to wrap it works good now.
So thats dumb for today for me!
Gotta get back out there now.

HAHAHA

I was feeling pretty darn bad about what I think I did to me little fig baby's.

But after reading your last post, I feel better now.

I know Jon has said he uses Roundup up to within a couple inches of his figs with no ill effects?? I used the Roundup right up to the Martins Unknown, it hasn't effected it or my Sal's #1 in-ground plant also.

Be careful Buddy.......I mean, DANG
