What is happening to my fig!?

Hello! I am a newbie and recently bought my first cutting. I was told it is an Italian fig and it does well in my zone (5b). When I got it a month ago it had 4 leaves and they had some small reddish-brown spots on them (rust or some other fungus?). Since then the lower 2 leaves have browned and fallen off. In the time I have had it there hasn't been any new growth either so I am worried I got a diseased dud of a plant! Is it possible that this is just normal since it is fall now and figs are deciduous? Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Laina: I think your fig leaves had rust on them.

Hi Tam,

Do you think it would be too late to treat? I have some copper-based fungicide I could try.

Thanks!

Welcome Laina.  Some of the leaves on almost all of my smaller trees are starting to rust.  I don't know if it's from the rain or if it's just that time of year.  I'm hoping it's just that time of year.  Sorry I can't help but I'm sure some of the other members have more experience with this that I do.  Good luck with your tree.

If mine i would leave it alone for soon the 2 leaves left will drop and then comes winter .  ; )
