What is most productive fig for Linda Vista, San Diego?

I was thinking about Black Mission.

Most any fig will be fine in Linda Vista, including Black Mission. Long season figs, such as Black Madeira and Panache wouod probably not be good choices.

Prunoid:
back in the 90's (when I knew nothing about figs) we lived down the Hill from you in University Heights and had a huge, climable White Genoa. Not sure about breba's I just know that we had figs (& the birds did too) from August to December.
Quite by accident, we planted a couple here & we are lucky to get a dozen or so, all with black spots.
(sigh).
good luck. You also have one of the premier fig people on planet earth out the 94 in Encanto!
:-)

fyvfigs,

So, you are saying that Black Mission is not a good choice for Linda Vista.

Thanks!

O No not at all.
It is just that I wandered the countryside in a dream state about the incredible # of varieties of figs! [What are the chances of the same tree in ARkansas as San Diego = White Genoa? Altho' my local supplier insists it is *White Russian*!--all part of the fun.]
BM will do fine it is just there are so many others you could do...
I have high hopes for some BM here this year & I am sure there is a reason why it is THE commercial fig.
Good luck,
Stephen

prunoid,

You can't go wrong with a Black Mission, still one of my favorites. There's a reason it's so popular here in CA, the taste is great. Jon mentioned Home Depot has Panachee's and that's another great tasting fig as well as a pretty fruit, green and yellow striped.
