What is the First thing you do Upon Receiving Cuttings..???

I normally rinse them in water, then wrap them in a moist “white” paper towel….unless I see some kind of grime or mold, then I would first clean with a 20pct Bleach and 80pct Water solution.

I grin from ear to ear, do a little dance and go woowho! If they are extra special I may even jump and click my heals together.   :)

I say thank you to the letter carrier.

Open the package.

I am with Jon on this!

YOU GUYS are Tearing me Apart...????....LOL

Yup, open the package to see what I have, then put it in the frig until ready for starting.  I don't mess around with any cuttings (dry sticks, in damp paper towels/newspaper, in damp moss).

Exactly!!! Lol!

Honestly, before opening the package, I try to rush write thank you note email/PM to the fig friend for the good jesture of sending me the cuttings. I do this as early as possible in case my enthusiasm gets dampened by finding the contents dead, damaged, too thin or other reason making it below my expectation. Other reason is to make sure the sender feels good the goods made it safe.

Very good point Ottawan.  The least we should do is send an e-mail to the sender and let them know the cuttings arrived.

Me too!  It makes me feel like a kid...pure joy.

I got some green cuttings about a month ago that I wrapped in moist paper towels with the ends unwrapped.  Then I wrapped the paper towels in cling wrap and dropped it all in a loosely folded over plastic shopping bag and put them on the fridge for a bit to let the cut ends callous over.  Then I potted them up and got 3 out of 3 to take.  Really nice roots right at the cut end edge on all three as well as up the sides on 2 of the 3 (not sure why the 1 hasn't rooted out the sides yet?)  Still feeling like a kid every time I look at them. Some figs have such beautiful leaves.

Before opening the package I scratch my head and try to remember what varieties these might be that I forgot I bought.  I open the package, log them down on my inventory list, and stick them in the refrigerator as is unless I have time to stick them for rooting immediately.

I was told when I check the mail and I have what looks like cuttings that my eyes light up like a kids at xmass. Then out comes the happy danc/strut up to the house. I then open and do another happy dance and place in the fridge until ready to root. I then try to send a thank you email to let the sender know I got the ok. Being in nursing school I have slipped a day or two on this last part. If I'm rushed for school and the packege looks like cuttings I put them in the fridge until I get the time to look at them.

Calvin,
I'm like you minus the dance routine..lol

I think of a new excuse to tell the Mrs.

send a confirmation letter to the sender thanking them. then open the package, and start processing the cutting. i typically cut the top as far away from the node that i want the branches to come out as possible. i cut the bottom as close to the bottom node as possible. i wash and scrub them in anti bacterial soap and depends on how i feel that day, might soak in bleach solution.

wrap them in the paper towel, viva paper towel,  and put in 1 gal ziploc, freezer bag. mark the bag.

check on the cuttings each day. wipe away any mold and excess moisture.

No longer root scion.  ; )

Like I did today when receiving cuttings from a generous member who surprised me.  Hurry up and open the package at the first red light.

Lol

I received some cuttings today, I got them ready to hide in the fridge and I burned all packaging that might mention the word fig just so there's no paper trail.

Sorry, Armando, but it was one of those days that needed some comic relief.

Its OK....I got over you and Greenfig after a couple of hours.....Most times I am not to serious, that moment I was Serious...LOL
