As i said before i have only been growing figs for three years. and most of the info i have learned i have gotten from others who have grown figs on other forums. and discoverd a wealth of info when i joined this forum less than a week ago. I have seen in post where people have mentioned getting cuttings from uc davis. what exactly is it and how does it work is my question.
UCD has a collection of fig trees, all of which are infected with FMV. They make cuttings available in late winter. There is a deadline for submission but if you're not after the super rare you may be able to submit late and get something. Can't hurt to try :)Go herehttp://www.ars.usda.gov/Services/Services.htm?modecode=53-06-20-00and follow the directions.
people still want their Black Madeira and Black Ischia.
Fmv??? Forgive my ignorence
Fig Mosaic Virus. UCD is the University College of Davis California.
FMV= fig mosaic virusDo a search here , there's been numerous discussions on itNothing to forgive - if you don't know how are you going to learn ? No question is silly! I never knew about it before coming here.
almost all fig trees have FMV. don't worry too much about it. some of UCD cutting show more issue than others.
Many definitions here: Figs 4 Fun FAQ
Jon, it's really hard to find your learning pages. It would be great if there was a direct link on http://figs4fun.com/ and http://encantofarms.com/The growing tips links to only 1 presentation.Thanks.
There is a 'search' in the upper right corner. There is much great information to be found in past posts. It's also fun to go back and read pages of old threads - you'll find many answers there. Good hunting.
I would rather get healthy cuttings anyways. but i am going to do a little research on this fmv so i can better understand it. thanx for the help all.
good luck finding cuttings without FMV. Just about all figs have it....some worse than others. Maybe this video will help created by yours truly.
