what is wrong with this picture?

this is a Kathleen's Black breba. it was green one day, and next day it turned charcoal black. it didn't swell, it didn't slowly turned dark. just one day it was green.. next day.. well here is the picture.. is it's getting ready to ripen? or is it going bad? no idea. if it hangs down, i'll cut it and try it.

Hard to see what the surface of the fig looks like. If it is not ripening normally, could it be a sooty mold?

i'll try to take better picture of it this aftenoon when the sun is on the otherside of the house.. but i didn't see any mold growing on it. it's just weird that it's the only figs that turned so quickly into dark color and didn't even swell. maybe it's rot.

Usually when figs darken without swelling in size, they were uncaprified and fall off.

jon,

i thought Kathleen's Black doesn't need caprification. other breba are doing fine. maybe this is the odd ball?

That fruit wants to abort, for a reason:
If in pot,The heat got to the roots too much.
Time to wrap the container in Aluminum foil,or paint the container white, and also water more diligently.

I think Herman nailed it, I found the same thing but more than one, all in dark pots. I think I'll go buy some white spray paint today!

I painted some of my pots white a few years ago, the paint didn't stick on very good!

I read on some forum somewhere that it is best to use white roof coating?

i took the fig off and chucked it. it seems like a runt. no need to keep it around. i did cut it open before putting into the trash can. it was all dried inside and very white. no hint of red.
