slingha...

Caveat emptor.  Waste none of your efforts on crappy varieties that will give you few rewards..  Too many good-performing varieties will do well in your area.

Check with Bass over at the "Trees of Joy" web-site, and also Bill form the "Bill's Figs".   Browse through all the great choices at "Italian Fig Trees"...speak with Joe.

Stay away from anything that says "Turkey" on the name label.  They will give you tasteless fruit.

Sage advice

Ive heard Bill's figs is pricey.  Does he sell them without his watering system?

Herman2 has lots of figs that are hardy, and have to pass other standards as well. He sells plants in late summer and cuttings in the fall, on eBay. He grows his trees in the ground, in roughly the same climate as me, and you.

Looks like one I have labeled as "Magnolia". Do the branches weep? Does the fruit grow in clusters?

The first season the fruit was sort of white inside and had a hint of Honey Dew melon taste.

The 2nd the inside was pinkish and the taste was so and so.
Look at the pics and compare.

Not saying it is a bad fig but I would lean towards a better fig than this.

Looks like it could be Brown Turkey variant or Magnolia.  Neither get rave reviews.  Would not waste time with it.

I just realized that is a stock photo, or stolen from another seller. Shame on whoever sent you that photo of "their" fig.

Here's the listing. http://cnj.craigslist.org/grd/3022469225.html

A 4 ft fig for 35 bucks seems like a square deal. Can anyone tell from the leaves?  Looks like the pictures of the trees are actual

Tim,

Since they are not using their own photo of the ripening fruit, you cannot trust that ANY of those pics are of the trees being sold. Therefor trying to identify the variety from fake photos would be "fruitless" ;-) . I would not pay $35 for a Brown Turkey or a Celeste. Good luck!

This is a photo from Wikipedia that anyone can use. So it most likely a different fig than this.

Yeah I don't think this would be a good investment. If you really want a larger tree check with Home Depot or Lowes or even better, if you are close enough to me you can pick up a large good tasting Brown Turkey free of charge.
