what kind of fig is this?

I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts of what kind of figs are these?  I know it's under ripe but I just thought I would throw it out there, I bought it from a guy in Long Island that called it special 101 ?

Some sort of an EBT fig was 'first' thing that came to my mind.
But, I am not an expert...

Whats an EBT fig? 

Brown Turkey: English, Eastern, whatever.

 

If you're lucky it'll be an alma  :)

Sorry, I assumed that:
EBT = English Brown Turkey.

'Alma' is more round with a solid, honey colored interior.

A legitimate variety?  Frankly, no.  There are a lot of mislabelled varieties out there or "alternate" varieties (Brown Turkey MD, English Brown Turkey, etc." which are supposed to be reasonable to good on flavor, but ... generally, no.  Brown Turkey figs taste watery and flavorless, like crap, and aren't worth the time.

DFIC 17 Brown Turkey is a very good tasting variety. In 2010 they were amazing, spicy skin, staining, richness, all that. It is what UC Davis considers to be THE Brown Turkey. It needs heat to ripen and is not hardy though.

2011 was the rainiest year ever for the east coast, lets not forget. I see those figs are not split or soured and could ripen a bit longer even.

I've never seen staining in pink-fleshed figs, and most documents I've read dating back hundreds of years or more list BT as having pink flesh.  I'd love to see the staining you're talking about, Brent.  Not saying it's not possible, but if Jon has tasted most of the UCD figs and still claims he's never tasted a BT that was any good, you got me stumped on what to think.

I know my Monrovia BT tastes like ass (and that's being gracious).  Likewise, all of the nearby BT trees I've ever found have about the same quality, unless you let them sit on the tree till the flesh starts to liquify and start to turn tan (on the verge of rotting).

Well, I tell ya, I would like to see them again too! The tree did not perform in our dismal season and I never took any pics in '10. This is what Jon has labeled UC and it looks like I remember so I think it is the one.

You mentioned the  'magic' word/#: Long Island/101...
Very possibly, it is a 'Miller EBT' from (now closed) BelleClare nursery.

#101 Miller's English Brown Turkey-Dark purple/brown, red center.

I just aquired a little one last fall.
I also tasted some fruit - delicious, in spite of (mucho) rain.

Wow I can't believe that reason being when I bought the tree on one side of the tag it said special 101 and the other side it said Miller , is Miller a variety of Turkey Fig? I think that some of the poor taste was from the heavy rains we had also I'll have to give it a second try

I was able to finally get in touch with the guy that I got the special 101 and he confirmed that it is a BelleClare Long Island  101 Miller's English Brown Turkey I asked him about the taste and he said on a very young tree the figs don't have the same taste as a tree that is a couple years old??? and also that all the rain we had last year definitely washes out the taste, we will see what happens this year , if we have allot of rain this year I guess I can cover the top of the pot with plastic
