What other Fig Trees should I add to my list?

I recently purchased some cuttings of the following and rooting now

Celeste                    e-bellavita     ebay,
Brown Turkey            angel-man-56 ebay
Hardy Chicago          freeman10176 ebay
Marseilles Black VS     drivewayfarmer  ebay    I got lucky today they're a figs4fun member

I plan on keeping them all potted. I want a nice selection of different flavor profiles.

Others I have looked at buying.

Sal EL
osborn Prolific
blache
Desert King
Verte
Olympian
Black Mission
Violette De Bordeaux

VdB would be a good choice.

No long term experience, but I've read enough to give some ideas.  Just take them with a grain of salt.

Bordeaux berry flavored:  Ronde de bordeaux is supposed to be early...maybe early enough for zone 6.  Dunno about winter protection though. Roots easily enough (<2 weeks for mine).

Adriatic berry flavored:  Stella is supposed to work for cooler climates and be of excellent quality.  Both cuttings rooted great for me, then I killed them with love

Honey:  Brooklyn white?  My cuttings have been pretty vigorous so far.  Supposed to be pretty tasty, as per forum member Bass and a few others.  Surely must grow in NY...its in the name!  Just gotta be sure to get the real deal.  There are 2 with same name, and one supposedly splits real bad.

Of the choices you listed, I *think* Sal's EL is supposed to be similar to Hardy Chicago and MSVS Black, but don't hold me to it.  Not sure where King/Desert King falls categorically, but its supposed to be good for cooler climates as well, as is osborne prolific.

Sal EL is still a wanted fig for me but I wanted to get some hopefully different flavors and like you, I read that both Chicago,Sal EL,MSVS are similar.

This issue I see now is buying Clippings that might be labeled wrong on ebay. Like you said with the Brooklyn white I have to make sure I get the real deal. Which leads me to wanting to buy most of my Clipping from Figs4Fun members.

I just wanted to get started. I can't see waiting 1-2 years to see if I got a clipping that was labeled as something but its totally different. So when members sell the same Clippings in my list I guess I should buy them also as I trust you guys more than ebay..

Being a Wine Maker I have nothing but time and patience..

If you do go the cutting route, just be relatively quick about it.  Cuttings are best taken while the tree is dormant, and I dunno about our northern members, but my two big potted figs are already outside and fully leafed out.

Option B is of course buying trees.  It can get expensive really quickly, but you have plenty of commercial sellers (e.g. trees of joy, just fruits and exotics, edible landscaping, etc) who can sell you good quality trees, and should be honest/reliable.  If money isn't a question, it honestly might be the way to go.  I suppose ebay is out there too...just keep tabs on who the trusted sellers are (there are a couple links in the forum somewhere)

Option C is just asking around.  Many forum members are quite generous.  I've seen the occasional person seeking something, and 10 minutes later they get a reply saying "I'll start an airlayer for you ASAP!"  Good folks on this forum.

I made my decisions based on this spreadsheet.  It has summarized info on the varieties that have been known to grow decently in colder climate areas.  I tried to pick varieties to cover different flavor profiles, colors, and ripening times.

Thanks for your help guys..

I will try to buy a few plants along the way. I might make the Violette De Bordeaux my first Tree and not clipping.

In my opinion VdB is superior to Black Mission and so no reason to plant both.

There are so many to choose from how many fig trees do you want to end up with?
You can find yourself overloaded with fig trees.  How much space do you have for winter storage ....

Maybe 30 Plants. I have big outdoor shed. Also I'll be sharing everything with my brother who lives just minutes away. So I won't have all these plants at once.

I like RDB......it is an early ripening fig.....started the first week of August for me.... It's a fast grower ....very productive and best of all it is a very good fig. I grow mine in a pot but may put it in ground this year...I'm only about 1 hour south of you
