what other figs should i look for?

so i have four trees now.

Greek White (Rafed)

Kathleen Black (Gene H.)

Paradiso Gene (Gene H.)

VdB (Gene H.)

and 5 in the cups.

Black Madeira (UCD)

Col de Dame Blanche (UCD)

Ischia White (UCD)

Ischia Green (UCD)

Calvert (UCD)

what other figs should i get? i'm thinking Barnisotte (UCD), Noire de Caromb (?), Ischia Black (UCD), and possibly either CdD Noir/Gris. started out thinking 3 trees are enough.. but it seems my desire to get more is getting better of me.

Hardy Chicago

Kathleen Blk may be Noir de Caromb.

Suggestions would be Native Blk, Zingarella, Sequioa, LSU Purple, Maltese Falcon,  Genovese Nero, White Triana. There are many good LSU varieties that have close eyes that can be considered. Sequioa is a new commercial variety. Interesting info on the internet.

Genovese Nero... heard about that. But that one seems to be hard one to come by. Nursery in Canada and few members seems to have them. Any source that I might get some cuttings from?

Maybe Adriatic JH and Bataglia green?  Atreano and Alma?

Col de dam noire I heard is one you wanna add your collection.I was very lucky to receive two cuttings but they failed.I hope to win this one that's listed on ebay.I see that this plant may sell close to 200 because how rare and hard it is to root.

i heard Col de Dame Blanche/Noir/Gris all taste about the same. but also heard that noir might ripe earlier and gris might taste the best? also heard that lighter figs are much easier to root than the rare dark figs. i want to see if i can get noir or gris.

Do you have any sure thing productive figs? It's nice to have lots of figs to eat while waiting for your rare late varieties to ripen. Marseilles white/ vs black, Celeste, hardy Chicago, and desert king should fit in that category.

VdB bearing first year fruit ripd on aug. 15th for me last year. that thing lasted few months before i had last one. Paradiso Gene riped on nov. 8th for me last year. i'm hoping they will ripe earlier this year.

i would get all those nice early trees.. but i'm running out of room already. i'm hoping one of the cuttings in the cup will provide me with earlier fruits.

Hey Pete!  Alma, Smith, Tacoma Violet, and White Triana are spot on super tasting figs!  White Triana is the sweetest fig I ever tasted......I'm talking super sweet!  Alma, Smith and Tacoma Violet are ultra rich in flavor according to my taste buds!  Excel at UCD was excellent but mine has not fruited for me yet.  I hear Adriatic JH and Bataglia Green are 2 other excellent tasting figs but I won't know how they taste until this summer.

Like you, I started with 4 fig trees a few years ago.  Today, I've got 65 fig trees planted in my orchard and getting ready to plant 30 more if the weather holds up!  Sounds like you're getting the "fig fever"!  Good luck!

dennis,

65 trees in orchard and 30 more to plant. that would be some orchard to see.

so... i'm adding Ronde dB, Genovese Nero, and Col de Dame Noir to my collection.

i think i'll look for Adriatic JH and  Maltese Falcon next..

Pete,

I sucessfully rooted RdB and it is growing well. I had two cuttings of CdD that did not root for me. I'm still rooting the JH Adriatic. I don't know how much they'll grow this year but I'll send you some RdB and JH Adriatic if I can and if you don't get it first.

I believe I have a CdD Noir plant on the way. I may be able to help there.

thanks darkman.

i have trade agreement on all three of those. i'm getting RdB cuttings, rooted

Genovese Nero cutting, and rooted CdDN cutting. i'm sending my rooted KB cutting and air layers.

but i'll keep you in mind incase they fail.

i'll be doing more trade winter/spring of 2013/14 if Genovese Nero/CdDN/Black Madeira/RdB live through this year.

right now i only have one tree that some of the people want to trade with that's mainly KB. if above list survives, i'll have more to trade with and give out.
