What the heck is that on my plant? (that was me this morning)

Well my fig plants never made it to the cold cellar.  Since I only 15 fig plants (and not in really big pots) they have been near my bay window in the kitchen (facing east).  Yes unfortunately they came out of dormancy and are growing but that's not my problem.

As I am looking at the plants one of them had what looked like little brown bumps.  When I finally decided to have a closer look and touched one it was some kind of bug.  Yeck! Since there were about 8 or so of these close together I removed them using some kleenex.  I checked the rest of the plant and nothing.  I checked the other plants and nothing.  I didn't notice them earlier because they were all facing the window. I don't know how long they had been there.

After some research I found out that these bugs were scale and I could potentially have a more serious problem.  How concerned should I be?

Scale is easily taken care of with sprays available.
I used Pyola last year to help control.

Thank you.  I will investigate whether we can use pyola here in ontario ( a lot of pesticides and herbicides are banned) in case I need to use it.

As it is made from canola oil and pyrethrins, I would think it should be no problem for you, but
I have no idea of your laws.

Hi Angela,  I have scale problem last Summer, they are easy to take care.

you are right that Canada banned all Pesticides, you can still get Canalo oil with pyrethrins, it is called Bug B Gon insectide, It costs $10 at Walmart, or $10.99 at Can Tire, Bug B Gon have so many products, you must read the label to right product.

http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/scotts-ecosense-bug-b-gon-insecticide-709-ml-0593891p.html

For me, It seems that you can make your own,  it looks like that it is 500mL Canala oil with 1/2 daisy dry flower, it worked for me, It kill scales, and invisible fig mites.

Thank you Ricky.  It's good to know about the Bug B Gon insecticide product.

I guess I now will research about invisible fig mites to see what they are all about and what damage they can do. Hopefully I don't have those.

Angela, you should be fine with those fig mites, You need 50x+ microscope to see them at summner, Anyway, You should be fine, They die in slight colder weather,  I put my pot fig trees in unheated shed  this year so it will kill those mites, it is not often even in our warmer weather than your.
