My tree must be happy as it breaking buds very low down and has 2 stems sprouting from the soil. How best can I remove the one coming for the soil to create a new plant. It is about 8 inches at least. I would like to give to my mom and/or have something to trade so I don't feel like a mooch if someone has a cutting or small plant to trade.

Lao should I remove the other low branch near my finger or just let the low buds and branches grow?

The sucker that is comming out of the ground may have some roots attached to it, which will increase the chances of a successful transplant...on the other hand the tree looks pretty young, and you may want to consider waiting until next season to perform the surgery...both the tree and the sucker will be much stronger by then...good luck.

I'd gently bend the fresh branches down to the ground and tack them with something so they stay there. then work it next year. If you wait til next year to get them to the surface they will have gotten woody and won't be as pliable.

On the one at the bottom I would cut the two larger leaves. I would get a beverage cup (16oz.) and cut it down the middle on one side. Tope to bottom. Cut a hole a bit larger than the sucker and butterfly open the cup and place it around the sucker.

I would then tape the cut shut.

By now the sucker will be inside the cup and fill with soil and leave only the top younger leaves exposed.
Make sure you make some extra hole for drainage.

Then I would place a couple of little bamboo sticks on the either sides of the cup and secure to prevent it from moving and shifting.

Water and wait for Nature to take over.

You can use the same concept on the one little branch above it.
