What to expect from these shoots? (pics)

When I removed these from the sp moss, shoots were emerging and there were enough roots to transfer into a clear cup.  I immediately placed them in the clear cup and watered, then placed under lights.  There was no mold on the cuttings, but these particular shoots look kind of mushy and black.  They're soft to the touch and I've provided a mix of air and humidity over the past 3 days.  Not sure if it's mold or what.  The other shoots look fine.  Anyone every seen this?  What came of it?  Thanks

Frank...what's that tag wire made out of that you have twisted around the base of those cuttings?  Just a thought.

I've seen that a lot on cuttings I have started. As long as there is still some green healthy stem tissue left the brown part should dry up and fall off and a new bud will emerge. I think it may be caused by too much moisture collecting at the end of the new growth. This also happens if the bud is touching the side of the container or U-line bag if you are using those.

Vince,

I used CAT5 cable.  I peeled the plastic jacket, then untwisted the copper wires.  The copper is also protected with a jacket, so I thought I'd try it.  Being in the IT field, I always have this on hand.  The tag is from a thermal printer.  It protects the print.

James.  Thanks for the reassurance.  Much appreciated!

Ditto on what James said above.

Also ditto on what James said above.

leave it alone

I have a lot of those...seems that the energy stops and the leaves go dead, but usually a new shoot comes from that. So, leave them alone and monitor.

Thank you all for commenting.  One less thing to worry about.
