What was a strong grower for you this year?

I started some Macool cuttings this year and they really are vigorous growers.  I think I need to repot already.

Mine the fastest has been battaglia.

by just the growth, Col de Dame Noir. going by number of figs, Black Madeira. going by over all, Genovese Nero. those are last yrs cuttings now in 3 gal. in 1 gal, i would have to say Marius's Unknown Purple Greek, Art's Unknown Syrian/Turkish, and Pastiliere Baud.

Ronde De Bordeaux and Malta Black have grown the most from cuttings and Hardy Chicago and Black Triana have the most figs on them.

My most vigorous growers in terms of vegetation
Cddn
Cddg
Lattarola
GM202
Malta Black
Sierra
Brogiotto Nero

Smith

I unloaded Malta Purple Red last season without tasting a ripe fruit. It just kept dropping everything.

Florea, Lemon and Filacciano Bianco

Alan,
My Gillette is about 6 feet tall in a 5 gallon pot. It is one of the very few plants not producing figs this year. It looks great but just hasn't a single fig.

For me, Stella and Filacciano Bianco with Vasilika Sika as a close 2nd.  My slowest have been Col de dame Blanc and Figo Preto.  There are a lot of factors that differ from cutting to cutting (e.g. Figo Preto should have been potted up sooner and is taking a while to recover from being potted up) so I am not reading all that much into this.

Sal's C , HC, Negronne, Kadota.

Tom,
Is your McCool the same as the Macool on Jon's varieities page and mentioned by Martin in this thread?

Cddn G                      Unk Spanish 1
Cddn N                      Unk Spanish 2
Genovese                   Maltese Falcon
Ruby 3                       Sucrette

My Maltese Falcon woke up after 5 yrs of minimal growth and took off as if it is on super steriods.
It is almost as tall as me and healthy.

Right now, it looks like a good year for Peter's Honey, Rick's Calabria, Hardy Chicago and Black Greek. I am also seeing a lot of newer figs bearing for the first time, just a few here and there. I am enjoying seeing them develop.

Adriatic JH from Herman from cutting is 4.5 ft in 3 gallon pot.

Florea, Genoese Nero, BryantDark, JH Adriatic. Though my VdB that was 6' last year and got zapped back to 6" has put on over 20' of linear growth (12 or more 2.5' to 3' shoots) and is full of figs. Macool is not growing quite as fast for me, but it is healthy.

Black Maderia and Desert king is the winner in terms of growth, more than 5 times the size from spring, Black maderia is just putting out branches all over and growing well.

Alan, I bought MPR as a young 1ft plant and kept it 4 seasons with no fruit that ripened. My feeling is it needs a fig wasp or better growing conditions than zone 7 South Jersey. When it left it was in a 20 gallon pot. My feeling is there are too many really good figs that will grow here without the fuss.

Strong growing and prolific
Lattarola
RDB was also a strong grower and heavy fruiter when young and continues to be.

It seems different varieties grow better in certain weather patterns and temperatures in my yard(some like it hot, some not as much). Hardy Chicago has been impressive through it all. Atreano has been fun to watch, and Smith is really coming on strong now.  MF started slow but seems to like the intense heat and is now growing very strong, I can't wait to see this baby in a few years.

When I first started growing figs I had a Negronne or VDB. I can't remember which but that thing grew roughly 12' up in the air without branching.

Everyday I would say today should be the day it starts to branch out. But no.

I did not know about pinching so my only option was to wait it out till Fall and cut it down to about 4' or 5'.

But has long went to Fig Heaven. Due to inexperience.

Genovese Nero and Purple Jordan are by far my fastest growers.
Barnisotte and JH Adriatic are right behind.

I also have a few Unknowns that are fast growers.

rafed, both CdDB and CdDN are like that.. straight pole.. no branching yet. i'll probably pinch them soon once they reach 3'. will go for my VdB shape.. ugly but wide open space in the middle.

Lots of vigorous growers in terms of vegetative growth this year at my location.  Particularly

           Turkmenistan
           Hardy Chicago
           Kathleen's Black
           Jurupa
           Chiappetta Unknown
Culummu Niuru cutting doing great too.

In terms of making main crop figs, the most prolific so far are
Peter's Honey  (sure hope it stays warm long enough in the season for them to ripen)
           Hardy Chicago
           Sal's EL
           Aubique Petit
(none of those are ripe yet, but one of the Hardy Chicago is clearly ripening, probably done within the week)

The cuttings were from Bass trees of Joy.  I just noticed there should be only one C.  I thought it had two C's.  I guess I was thinking it was an Irish fig :)
