I'm still waiting on my first ripe fig, would like to hear about some of your firsts.

I recall Grandmother taking me by hand as a child to her backyard tree one summer many many many seasons ago.

First one eaten? Probably a mission.

First one planted - years ago a mission that died the first year without ever fruiting. (poor care, gophers?)

First one successfully grown - one purchased as a mission, but labeled at it's base as a Violette de Bordeaux.

Now I have far more than that. Mission accomplished, he, he.

My first fig ever was from a tree that my grandfather brought from Italy when I was very young.
The tree is now gone and I don't remember if it was light or dark but my best guess is it was a dark fig since my mother always said the green ones are no good.
She's on the dark side with Martin.

Yes along with Dad as he also liked the figs very much he ate them growing up in Italy , in this country he would bring them home from the club all the time in cardboard box when in season so i always had figs , prickly pears,  horse meat (long story) and during holidays chestnuts , mother would eat the figs but was not overly enjoyed by them like other family members but loved the prickly pears and chestnuts.

It was probably Hardy Chicago, it was a small dark fig passed around by Midfex members in Chicago anyway. Still waiting to taste its equal from my trees in CO.

My Dad's Black Mission.....Loved eating those every summer.....then he chopped it down to the ground....I have ever been traumatized....LOL
