What would you plant?

I have a small spot in my front yard, where I originally had an evergreen tree. The spot is against a south facing wall. It's a perfect spot for a fig tree.
I have many figs growing in containers but only about 6 growing in ground.

Here's my choices:
Vista
Encanto Brown Turkey
Sal's
Gelbun
Brunswick
Osbourn Prolific
Blue Celeste
LSU Gold
LSu purple
peter's Honey
Italian Golden Honey

These listed are trees I already have in containers.
I do have a lot more that are either small or won't do well in ground.
Suggestions?

If it was in my zone 6/7, it would be either Sal's or LSU Gold. Right now I have the following in ground -- Lattarula, Desert King, Unknown Greek, Negronne. The others I would be puttting in ground when they are bigger would be Elana, Verte, and maybe LSU Gold(if my order arrives).

Hi Bass,

My Sal's is still very small, but based on everything I've read and heard I would think Sal's would be a good choice.  I'm not sure about the hardiness of LSU Gold, but these are great figs for me.

LOL...Paul, great minds must think alike, huh?

Notice the post times of our posts :)

I thought about sal's, but since I have Hardy Chicago in the ground already, I was thinking why not something different.
I live in zone 6b eastern Pa.

If you live where you have a long hot growing season- definitely Flanders, Tena and Verte for starters.....

Ahaa Henry, it must be the fresh mind at work in the early morning specially for figs.

"I" would plant them all, but "I" am not in PA. ;-))

Jon,
does your Vista ripens late in the season? not sure how well it will grow in ground.
I know Herman mentioned blue celeste as a recommended variety, I didn't get any fruit from mine, is it an above average in taste?

The Vista is a mid/later season fig, but has never failed to ripen here. Panache often doesn't ripen all the fruit, but Vista is always good. It just doesn't have fruit at the front end of the season. Should have the same season as Violette de Bordeaux.

Bass,

I was looking at your list again and noticed there weren't any "white" figs with red pulp on the list.  Do you have any of these in the ground already?  If not, you might consider Battaglia Green (formerly sold by Paradise Nursery).  So far, it is my favorite green fig with red pulp.  It is rich flavored and sweet (if you haven't tasted it).  I would also suggest Smith (yellow w/red pulp), but I have doubt about it's hardiness for an in ground fig in your area.
