What's happening?

My small little Neri fig tree's buds are turning a brownish color is this okay? I think the leaves were taken off on purpose when it was mailed to me so i dont know if it's technically in a "dormant state so i dont know if they plant stored up everything it needs to survive winter. Or should I just grow them indoors but I don't have the lights to do so and would I cause weird fruiting patterns?

Lighting isn't the greatest in the photos, but the buds look dormant to me. So good to go to stay dormant indoors as long as its stored in ideal temperature.

They stared as green and became brownish looking the leaves were cut off so is that technical dormant?

Can you get some more photos, im sure its fine. The wood is lignified, the leaves were cut off or fell off? Where did the plant come from? If it was from a cold climate, it could be dormant already . You can leave it outside till we start getting some frost warnings to ensure its fully dormant, thats what i plan on doing with my little guys that are losing their leaves. Once we get mid 30's, then ill shuffle inside.

The leaves were most likely cut off when mario_1 shipped it to me there are absolutely no leaves on it when it got here just two little figs that I took off when it arived

Are you rooting them now? If yes the terminal bud on top outer layer will dry then peal back and turn green when kept indoors in glass of water or soil less media

No this is a plant its physical producing fruit even though it's like 5 inches tall. Mario_1 mails it to me.

Hi Matthew, the plant is actually going dormant, the leaves fell off on their own , I left the figs on for you to see and then take off like you already did. The tree should be fine put it in garage and put a bottle of water next to it ,if the water freezes bring it inside temporarily. I'm about 2:00 away from you if you like in spring you can come and visit with your parents and we can visit the CT agricultural experimental station fig section and I'll make sure you go home with some nice plants

Oh okay thanks Mario I just wanted to make sure the fig survived seeing as you probably put a lot of work into it. And I will try to make that happen. Thanks Mario.
