What's wrong with my fig?

To me it looks like possible nutrient burn/over fertilization but it can't be since I fertilize with a vary diluted organic liquid fertilizer maybe once or twice a month. Not vary often anyways.

Could a pest of some sort be causing this or is it more simple? This is my first fig called Hardy Chicago. Please help.

if it does not wear off as it grows, you may have a case of rust. Over fertilizing could do it also.

Did you spay it with something (even plain water)?

FMV will cause color patterns like that.

I have not seen FMV symptoms like that before.
Let us know if those (rather sharp) 'yellow' spots will later 'brown' out....

I have a Peters Honey from Monrovia which had something very similar looking to that, except it wasn't random spotting across the surface of the leaf. They were limited to tip margin region of a few of the upper most leaves. It was like that when I bought it and the plant pot was was soaking in a several inches of water in the saucer. With the exceptions of the those few leave ends every thing else looked completely normal. I inquired with the nursery if the plant had a sort of FMV, the woman I spoke with seemed a bit more knowledgeable about figs than most employees. She felt that it was from nutrients leaching into the excess water.

After I bought the plant, it was no longer soaking in water.  To me it appeared very similar to a form of Iron chlorosis which was limited to that small area on a few leaves. I watered with a liquid iron +micronutrients supplement as well as use a fertilizer with chelated micronutrients. The condition did not spread, turn brown, or appear on any new growth. It also did not resolve either.  I guess we will see what it does this year.

Are you excessively watering?

Grasa - Sometimes when I water the bonsai pomegranate next to it it gets sprayed with plane water.

Pit - What if FMV?

Cis - The plants/trees get watered about once a week after each looks nice and dry. None of the other plants are showing this symptom.

If possible, please post a photo taken from under-side of the leaves. It will make it easier to determine if it's a fungal disease, nutrion deficincy, sun scold or etc..

Navid.

FMV = Fig Mosaic Virus. Pretty much endemic to all Ficus carica.

Don't think there is a 100% fmv tree out there.

Kesh - The underside of the leaves look the same as unaffected leaves except the light is shining through the affected areas. Other than that everything looks normal no other discoloration, no moldy or fungal looking areas. If the picture is still needed I'll post one tomorrow.

One thing to note is the fig was growing just fine for about a month then all of a sudden it stopped growing in height and looks like it may be forming a fig at the upper most leaf node. Since it stopped growing (which was about the time this issue started) it hasn't grown any taller. The whole plant is only about 10 inches tall from top leaf to soil level.

that pix is not that bad. one of my cutting has a leaf that's so discolored, i thought it was a Jolly Tiger. :)
